LMAO@Paladin's pic.

Good stuff. Of course evil is thrown around too loosely, more so by religious nuts of all sects/faiths than anyone else.

Yeah, evil is used too much. Immoral is more accurate, and rampant.

There's plenty of that around too, but I think the immorality needs a mention in a lot of cases.

It does seem to sum it all up very well. Nicely said.

It could be argued that the incompetence is a pretense.

And oil companies knowingly cause deaths for their bottom line. That's evil.

????? Because it's a dangerous business, or something else?

BTW, I'm sort of confused as to the supposed "greed" of the oil companies. From what I understand, their profit margin is only 10%. So they make a lot of money, but the SPEND a ton of money too, so their "huge profits" are 10%. There are plenty of other businesses which operate at a better profit margin (even my ebay business makes much better than 10%, so should I have to pay a 'windfall profits' tax?)

Then, they turn around and invest an average 78% of those profits into exploration, research and development. So the democrats call the oil companies greedy (pot, kettle, black) and place an "envious punishment tax" on them. This ultimately means they will have less money to turn into new oil supplies/new extraction tech/new alternative energies, which means the price the consumers (you and me) pay for energy is just going to go up at a faster pace.

How/why is this good?

Most oil companies aren't too bad. Exxon is the only evil one.

They invest more profits in research, last I checked.

They also used to to cleverly look away while local populations were intimidated and killed by corrupt governments, to "safeguard" their pipelines. But maybe they've gotten better.

The sad fact is that since oil is found in some very poorly run countries, that many oil companies have been complicit in some very shady goings on. By complicit i mean looking away while some terrible things were done for their benefit, rather than actively doing the deeds themselves.

Sadly. this type of behaviour can also be level at other multinational companies outside the oil industry.
