Why so curious?

Given its page count, I'd say around 200,000...

Stabro is right but remember word counts don't matter. What's in the words do. Given Erikson's writng I'd give his profounditiness a full 10 points (leaving room for improvement of course) on an 11 point scale.

thats 36 words in case you decide to count that too. If you really decide you want to have no life and count the words yourself, do a character count: the number will be just that much more impressive

keep it on topic guys :folken: No silly stuff.

As far as I know we don't have an official word count, but I believe that they all fall within 200,000 to 300,000 words.

Just a reiteration to Kud (because our posts have been deleted)

There won't be a word count on any seller's pages, they only have page counts.

If we wan't to get a good estimate here's what we'll need

(5) pages full text
average amount of words dislpaced by a page break
average amount of a decent sized chapter start excerpt
average number of page breaks

with this information we'll be able to get closer than within a 100 thousand words. Let's start with GotM.

are we looking for words in the book, or words in the story? (including glossary, dramatis personae ect?)

That's what I was saying at the beginning of the thread...books are meant to be read, not have words counted.

I am half way through typing it out in MS Word so that I can do a word count at the end. Up to 87000 so far! I had to leave my job and my girlfriend has dumped me, but It'll be worth it when I find out!

OH MY GOD!!!

thanks for all your doing but make sure that word document never makes it off your computer, otherwise you could get into dome serious trouble with the copyright infringement law. Plus if we need to find something, you can jsut hit the search button and find it immediatly

Can't you just email the initial publishers? That would be a lot quicker :(

It would be quicker but i don't think Tor would be to keen about handing off that type of stuff. who knows, SE might know the counts.

and no, i wasn't joking about copyright infringement. you can be held acountable for severe penalty(s) and/or fines for EACH infringement. with videos it is illegal to copy, but with printed documents (excluding sheet music) you can reproduce the original for free and without consent as long as it does not lead to monetary profit.

I meant the guy who said he was typing it out and had lost his job and his girlfriend as a result. That was a joke.

He may have lost his job and girlfriend due to other circumstances, we aren't sure but it sounds very much like that. Perhaps, he wanted a reason to leave both :(

@Bhok'arala: I feel copyright is a serious issue, I was slightly preplexed because of: OH MY GOD!!! It seemed slightly over the top.
