Gruntle...what happened

Trake did inflict changes on his hands though. It is mentioned that since he signed on with Trake, Heboric lost the extreme strength which he used to pwn Karsa in DG(forgot that one). I remeber him being hesitant with Bidathal because he could no longer rip people limb from limb without much effort.
Course I could be wrong but I was under the impression that the magic hands had become aspected to Trake by the end which is a shame. The loss of the Karsa busters was saddening.

Wait, didn't he mess up a couple of ninjas trying kill him in the Apocalypse camp... or was that the other way around?

Both. He kills some ninjas, then the ninjas got the better of him for a second, then some dead malazans showed up and beat them to death, and then Heboric had Scillara drag him back to his tent to heal.
*does "both" mean "ten" now?

Heboric halted. "Hood take his soul. I must go to him. Now"
"We will find him --"
"In his damned temple, aye. Come on."
They swung about.
Even as two figures emerged from the gloom of an alley mouth, blades flickering out.
With a snarl, Heboric closed on them. One taloned hand shot out, tore under and into an assassin's neck, then snapped upward, lifting the man's head clean from his shoulders.
The other killer lunged, knife-point darting for Heboric's left eye. The Destriant caught the man's wrist and crushed both bones*. A slash from his other hand spilled the assassin's entrails onto the dusty street.
Flinging the body away, Heboric glared about. Scillara stood a few paces back, her eyes wide. Ignoring her, the Destriant crouched down over the nearest corpse. "Korbolo Dom's. Too impatient by far--"
Three quarrels strick him simultaneously. One deep into his right hip, shattering the bone. Another plunging beneath his right shoulder balde to draw short a finger's breadth from his spine. The third, arriving from the opposite direction, took him high on his left shoulder with enough force to spin him round, so that he tumbled backward over the corpse.
Scillara scrabbled down beside him. "Old man? Do you live?"
"Bastards," he growled. "That hurts."
"They're coming--"
"To finish me off, aye. Flee, lass. To the stone forest. Go."
(skip -- the dead malazan's save him)
"Scillara?"
"Yes, it's me. There were soldiers here, I think. They didn't look too good--"
"Never mind that. Pull the quarrels from me. Flesh wants to heal, bone to knit. Pull 'em out, lass."
"And then?"
"Drag me back to my temple...if you can."
"We will find him --"

Probably means the bones in the forearm/wrist, not the bones in the hand

Veilside is probably right, and it's the colloquial use of the word "wrist". Technically, there are eight carpal (wrist) bones "proper" and two forearm bones that articulate with them, making ten total. Usually SE is very precise with his anatomy/phys refs, so mostly, my comment was just meant as smartass humor. Sorry if it was too nerdy

Trake's still in the fight against the CG - to the point that it seems Krul manipulated events to ensure tiger-guy ascended to godhood when Fener was chopped (pun intended).
So fair bet we'll see Gruntle and his Legion again in some capacity.
Heboric had a brief stint as Trake's Destriant, and/or Shield Anvil (post humously), but we haven't seen anyone else in those positions, so one or the other is likely to pop up.
Plus the theory that Heboric is now back and in Chaur's body, which would mean Trake had 2 aspected mortals in play.
It's interesting that of the various MS/Destriant/SA individuals we've seen Trake's have been the most creative with their powers. Gruntle assembled his legion and did the tiger thing, and Heboric manifested those ghost hands/claws ( keeping in mind the jade chunk and otataral influences at work there).
Which brings up yet another point... Heboric, as Trake's shiny new Destriant, was tainted by the Jade Chunks and Otataral... given the link between god and invested human, i wonder whether that had a backlash effect of some sort.
Anyrate, Gruntle's stomping grounds were Genabackis, so decent odds we'll see him again in TtH.
- Abyss, notes the whole tigermorph thing was too utterly cool to not use ever again in the books...

Don't forget the endless possibilities arising from Legana Breed calling Stormy Shield Anvil in Malaz City...

I think that may have something to do with his crazy honet dream and fire more then with the Animals of Summer
However, the one tidbit that was VERY interesting in RG is that the 3 surviving heavies in Stormy's squad are all Falari and were part of the Boar company....

Gesler had the dream, while Stormy was in the Imperial Warren and didn't drink any Carelbarra. Besides, dreaming you're a hearth with savages dancing around you doesn't seem particularly related to being a Shield Anvil...

Very true. That could be quite interesting now that they're in Letheras...
