ID4 2

Ehhhh... I don't know.
Independence day 1 was a disaster movie with a war at the end. I am not sure what this film can offer going by the trailer. It seems like a straight forward sequel, this time the Aliens are back, they have more guns and they are angry. Yawn.
Is the premise that they are still out to get our precious resources? Is this a home fleet or is it a rescue/retaliation fleet of space ships?
I mean, logically, we cannot win this war. No way did we re-engineer that much tech in 20 years, after civilization collapses. The plot is stupid by design.
I prefer the idea where ID2 would have been about fighting the millions of Aliens that may have survived the saucers crash landing on Earth.

While implausibility does mean the finale is more likely than not stupid, it still looks like a lot of dumb fun before that. Which of course is what the first one was anyway. I'm into it (for now). Thought Bill Pullman was Randy Quaid for a second there, which would have been a coup.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I thought that white haired/bearded guy was Randy Quaid there for a while as well but I imagine his career is pretty much dead.

I think it looks great actually. LOVE the first movie, ridiculous plotpoints and all.
Also, someone in marketing knows their job, using Pullman's speech from the first film laid overtop of the new footage is genius.

I think the first one is pretty poo (I don't have that nostalgia factor for it), but I do think that trailer looks good, with the sense of creeping dread.
That speech, though. I know I'm the total minority here, but urgh.

My god, man! That's Independence Day you are talking about!
I know I sometimes say crazy things but we're talking about a movie where giant flying saucers blow American monuments up and a crop dusting drunk saves the world while spouting funny one liners. It's like everything good about Hollywood Blockbusters.
I actually haven't watched Independence Day in a decade. I wonder if it still holds up. I remember back when it was released they did teaser trailers in the cinema that ran for months and months. It was like Christmas in July when it finally came out.

Hey, the '90s gave us some fabulous cheesy Hollywood blockbusters. Even Michael Bay made one. But Independence Day- it's not for me.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

I always enjoy watching ID, but not too the extent of our beloved pet idiot Apt.
This trailer doesn't excite me, because as much as I like the first one, I feel a sequel should have followed rather quickly than now, top long gone, don't really care.
Nice to see Jeff back in a big film again though.

That speech is one of the finest leader speeches in a movie ever. For shame PG!

Actually, a lot of the time, I find that Long Sequels (of which this is one) that take place many years later, often do a far better job than a direct/immediate sequel might have... and give everyone something far more thoughtful. Not all the time mind you, but a lot of the time. All of these have at least a decade or more since the previous installment, and all seemed to have enough of a gap for those involved to come up with an truly interesting sequel, even many years later.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
QUEEN & COUNTRY
HALLOWEEN H2O
2010
ROCKY BALBOA
DRUNKEN MASTER II
JURASSIC WORLD
RESCUERS DOWN UNDER
TOY STORY 3
and...though it's not yet out, I'ma add THE FORCE AWAKENS to this list.

Well, if it helps, you have INTERSTELLAR where that specific speech is repeated like no less than 4 times.

This is the best screen version. Admittedly, all mixed up with other stuff.

I'm expecting them to do a catch up bit telling us they fought and wiped out the City Destroyer survivors. 36 15 mile wide ships would hold a lot of beings and no way they all died that day in crashes. That's assuming all 36 were brought down that day since we didn't see em all. The General said they were going down all around world but I can see them having 5 or so that made it for awhile past that day.
Viral website is up that explains that Col. Hiller (Smith's character) died in an early test of the new hybrid alien/Human jets.

In the trailer it looks like they discover an Alien city/camp thingy. My guess is that those Aliens are the ones that called the new fleet.

New trailer
And a "Special Report"
The original film holds a special place in my heart for personal reasons and I really am looking forward to this now.
