Getting caught up on some of the episodes I have backlogged. Watched one from a few back and the final challenge was a pair of Ginunting swords.
Ha! "Ginunting"! Sounds like an ancient Scandinavian mating ritual, but it's origins are in the Philippines.

huh, with this three week "Armed Forces Tournament" I see they have Ben Abbott back. Glad to see that, because I thought he was not on the show anymore, like Wil. Maybe this armed forces tournament was tapped prior to the season proper? So Ben could still be gone? dunno. I hope not. I like Ben, and we need Ben. As much as I respect J. (the best and most knowledgeable blacksmith on the show btw) and how he goes absolutely HAM during the weapons challenge, I need a break from his assholery (which I respect also) once in awhile.

Any of you molten metal maniacs know when this will start up again? I'm kinda jones'n for my hammer on liquid metal fix. I sure hope they bring back Wil when it does come back. Although I read he's starting a young family and so that is his priority.

New season gonna start Dec. 8. Ha! commercial that is promoting the season says it will be the most metal season ever. I don't know about that but the commercial does tease some interesting episodes -
+ "Judge's Takeover" (love that police lineup-like shot of all four judges, that's metal! ). It teases their favorite weapons put through the most punishing tests.
+ "The Dark Side". Executioner sword and the Guillotine. Ha! you know they are going to roll out the props to maximize the lopping off of heads effect.
+ "Fans Choice". <meh>
No Wil Willis back to host. I guess he is done with the show for good? Bummer.

IIRC Wil Willis left the show because he wanted to spend more time with his family.

I sorta remember catching a blurb about that, Wil wanting to devote more time to his new family. But I also recall it was suggested that the production was less then professional at times. Which could just be sour grapes because nothing specific was mentioned, other than waiting in hot, cramped situations periodically, which I don't think is a stretch to accept because of the nature of the show.

I stopped watching this show for some time now, but when I heard about a "Gladiators of the Forge" competition I decided to see what it was about. It's been really good, because a college student has won eight battles in a row to become the champion. And his work is on par with any that have come through the series. Like he could legitimately give Ben Abbott some competition. I guess the highest compliment he received is when J. Neilson commented that he would hire him. The kid is a double engineering major and is a frickin machine. In most of the contests he'd be quenching his weapon while the other guy was still on the big blue hammer drawing the steel out. I expect they will have him back in future competitions.
