I just happened to come across a first album called Echoes of Battle by someone going by the name of Caladan Brood. To me it sounds like someone out to make a loada' noise for the sake of it, so left a comment stating the same. Anyone else heard it; any opinions?

For the record, (excuse the pun) this was my comment:-
Only checked this out as I'm currently reading Steven Erikson. Starts off quite promising; all Skyrim/Morrowind-like, then turns out to be just an excuse to make some noise. Pretty crap in my opinion, I'd rather listen to Jethro Tull's Broadsword over and over again, far less boring and more appropriate. Sorry guys, just my opinion, which we're all entitled to I believe.

Started out pretty good, then someone started singing. That has to be the worst singing I've ever heard.

Everyone's taste is different. Personally, I like the whole album, though this generally isn't the kind of metal I enjoy. There is a thread here of other people's opinions too.

I am more interested in your comment.

This is one of the most annoying youtube comments I have ever seen. First you call their music crap and then you defend this rather non-constructive insult by saying it's your right in the most condescending way possible.

Congratulations you seem to have managed to squeeze the very essence of
every youtube flame war into one paragraph. The only way it could be improved is if you put a "No offence" in front of it.

I remember this, I expected them to be a member on this forum. But I guess they're not,

Too bad I hate metal, even Malazan metal.

Well, yea, it really is a matter of different tastes, as someone else has already pointed out Personally, this stuff is right up my alley, so I have no trouble with the vocals. A Voice Born of Stone and Dust has especially good lyrics at the start.Rrrotting hides...

Not this again...

What you could have done is post a link and say, "Hey, I've just seen this on YouTube—it's really not my thing; it starts ok but I can't stand the singing and couldn't listen past the first track. What do you guys think?"

What you actually did was post a link and a bunch of insults hidden behind a veil of apologies for expressing your opinion (which you're entitled to, I believe).

Why do you feel the need to join the Always Someone Slagging Off crowd just because other people do it? It's my opinion that if you don't like something, be nice or shut up. Go and listen to something you do like instead of wasting time (which, incidentally, is obviously quite valuable to you) insulting what you don't. As Apt rightly said, everybody has different tastes and just because you don't like something doesn't mean that it's shit.

Besides, even if it is shit, why post nasty comments about it just to enrage others?

By the way, I don't really like it, either. I do like metal but this guy's singing doesn't do it for me.

Well, it's called black metal for a reason. In some countries like mine, it has become something of a national phenomenon.
Listen to some Finnish music (you don't need to like it):

Beeotch might be the correct term in this case. :) But glad you like the music. :-D

Yes and I do have a ticket for Korpiklaani's next gig on the upcoming Thursday.

Ah, damn. :) Have fun, then!
Hopefully Jonne won't drink so much he can't remember the lyrics. (Fat chance, heh)

OK, so I've just gone through and removed the majority of posts in this thread.

Guys, this isn't the Inn, it's a book forum; keep things civil and at least semi-constructive. Your running tit-for-tat "no, you suck!" posts were not in the least constructive. :)

Thanks. :-D Well, the audience will remember them for him, should that slight problem occur.

Ok. It started off just as a bit of a comment on music I thought was a bit naff by a band called Caladan Brood; I thought it might have raised a bit of interest; it did THAT alright!!, and now it's got out of hand.
As you said, you deleted some of the comments and was causing something of an online version of WW3. As I mistakenly started it in the first place (and in the wrong place :D ), I've no objection if you delete the whole thread to save any more animosity. In fact I think it would be a good idea if you did.
