I cant quite decide. Will likely turn on whether it's a cool retro spy show or a tedious angst ridden drama.

Ditto, Abyss. But even if there's spy stuff, I'm afraid there may be too much angst. Even shows like Arrow turned out to be too adult-Dawson's-Creeky for my taste...

About the Show
LOS ANGELES, August 9, 2012 - FX has placed a 13-episode order for its next drama series The Americans, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks. The series begins production in October and is scheduled to premiere in early 2013.
The Americans, created by Joe Weisberg and starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich, is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of Phillip (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell), who have two children who know nothing about their parents true identity, grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Complicating their relationship further is Phillip's growing sense of affinity for America's values and way of life. Tensions also heighten upon the arrival of a new neighbor, Stan (Emmerich), an FBI agent working in counter intelligence.

I'll watch it unless/until she cuts her hair, then I'm out.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I like the core concept of THE AMERICANS, but it's complex enough that i want more than just a single ep to judge it on. Am doing what i did with THE FOLLOWING and waiting til i have 2-3 eps lined up to watch together.
I find i'm more likely to connect with a show when i have more than 48minutes to get into it, hence why renting/streaming a whole season of a show (Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, Dexter) hooked me.

Interesting premise and i think Phil and Elizabeth's relationship has a lot of drama potential. Great fight scenes.
That said, ep 2 lacked the impact and tension of the premiere. Good, but not AS good as i was hoping for coming out of the premiere.
I did like how the sr KGB guy in ep 2 set the notion of Reagan's government as the bad guys. Given how the Reagan years are often looked back on, it makes Phil/Liz's work that much more ambiguous even when they resort to some seriously nasty tactics.

Agreed. It was losing me there with some tepid storytelling but the Reagan Shooting ep was brilliantly done.
In particular i enjoyed how the Soviets kept misinterpretting the US reaction and Phil and Liz had completely opposite responses to what they should do next.
Also really liking how when someone has to be beaten to a pulp it's Phil's job, but when there's a kill, they send Liz, which radically subverts his protective reactions towards her, and the emphasizes that she can probably take a beating way better than he can.
Nice addition to the tv landscape and i hope this show gets a chance to grow.

I also enjoyed season 1. Can't wait for season 2.

Not bad.
Only the last scene at the hotel hit the level of HolyFuck! of some of S1's highlights, but a solid ep.
I like how they're setting the groundwork for a serious conflict of Soveit loyalty vs concern for their kids.

The Z was a thing of beauty.
That scene with Lanark and the Panamanian girl was so fucked. Keri Russel totally sold that.

recently found this show and am enjoying. Still I realized that for all they do, for all their accomplishments they don't seem to do very much. What happened to the Contra photos? Though I believe this at least is not based on reality?
Show is making me curious though. I wonder if anything like this ever really happened. What do spies really do. I must see if can find some factual accounts. I know the Illegals programme was real but I think we are seeing an extreme version.

Yeah but did they have kids who never knew their parents were spies?
Apparently they did. WTF

I'm really waiting for Beeman to live up to the hype from his background in season 1. You can see glimmers here and there, and they brought the background up in last weeks episode.

This season has been So good so far.Not surprised about the conclusion of that story... I was saying just the week before that it seemed to be going nowhere and too separate from the main stories. Also the actor has been appearing in a bunch of other things lately.
