That word count versus time pic is way off. Harry Potter or Twilight is something that an avid reader will mow down in record time - though with Twilight they may skip a few pages by throwing most of the series out the window or into the fire. Dealing with and interpreting the older English in Gulliver's Travels, tracking the numerous names/nicknames per person in something like Crime and Punishment or Anna Karenina (something I think many NA readers at least are not used to) is going to slow people down. Nevermind that all three of those are actually well written prose and not candy fiction reads. Any time per page reading guide needs to be adjusted for the level of reading skill required and relative changes in language. Yeah, it makes ASOIaF look like a long read, but it is mostly is way off.

*waits for the neg rep for not including a pic*

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

If (even including the wrong guesses) there's been a more accurate prediction of the future than this article from the Ladies Home Journal in 1900, I haven't seen it.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

that looks like the early moments of a porn film - it figures that you'd have your finger on the pulse of such content.

I'm damn impressed by the hydro-foil and the cell phone predictions.

And damn disappointed at a couple of the ones that could be true. Free universities; now that's a wild idea.
