I've only read the omnibus of the first three black company books, and really enjoyed them. My only criticism of what I have read is that the individual books are very short. If I was reading them one at a time, each would probably last me less than a day. So, I will stick to reading them as the omnibuses (omnibusi?) come out.

Picked up the Omnibus of the South before the weekend and read it. I think the Silver Spike was a tad weaker than the other two, but I need to see the Glittering Stone books now.... Spoilers for the books of the south:

Did anyone play Tonk, that card game they were always playing in the Black Company series? I seem to remember that I had a grasp on the rules at point but never had anyone to play it with. Would be cool to try.

I loved how every once in a while in the Black Company books you would an outsiders view of the company. The company never seemed to realize it themselves but they grew into legends as well known as the Taken that they themselves were so impressed with. It was a nice touch, that the grunts always stayed grunts to each other.

I believe he laid the rules out well enough in the books that you could actually play it if one was so inclined. I seem to remember a website dedicated to the series that had the rules somewhere on it but can't remember the site.

I played Tonk growing up at swim meets and things like that....not sure if the rules are the EXACT same as they are in Cook's books....but similar.

Nice work! That's the great things about the forums. Sometimes I'm actually too lazy to google.

I've managed to hunt down copies of ever black Company book but Soldiers Live, book 4 of the Glittering Stone. I've found numerous copies of all but this one. Everywhere online I have seen the book is $20+ used in paperback, in some cases $100+, which is weird, but I have seen book freakishly over priced before.

My question is, is this book rare for some weird reason, or I am just having god awful luck trying to track down a nomral priced MMP of this damn book?

Is there going to be a "Glittering Stone" Omnibus? I thought there would be if they put the first 2 sets in one....

Amazon has at least 6 copies of Soldiers Live in hardback though. I had least luck with She is the darkness that I got fairly expensive. Im reading it now and it's great. Really liked Bleak Seasons too. Had a very fun (don't think this is a spoiler really) short (2 pages or so) example of One-Eyes writing the Annals. Mostly along the lines of "got there, got drunk, got lost, found the others after two weeks, fought some battles, got drunk".

I wish authors would sell career pack, where you can buy all of their books in one purchase. It would be expensive, but would save so much effort.

I walked around my house whispering "SHE IS THE DARKNESS" for a week after reading it. My wife kept cracking up. I love the dude that keeps running away saying that, brilliant.

Excellent.

Gollancz are publishing The Chronicles of the Black Company (the first three novels) in omnibus on 18 September. I believe this is the first official UK publication of any of Cook's work. The UK edition has Erikson's blurb up front and centre, as would be expected
