Hey PAt, what kind of document is it.
If it is an attachment and you have Gmail, you could try the open as a HTML document. That often gets around broken pdfs and a few other file types i've had issues with.
Not sure if right clicking and asking the compter to try opening it with a browser will do the same thing? But that used to work in days gone by too. That often got around any Mac-PC issues.

Pat, Wert, or anyone who might know -
In Pat's interview (back in January 2009), Mr Cook said he had already turned in 'Surrender to the Will of the Night', (Instrumentalities book 3) to his agent/publisher. Has a release date been announced anywhere? What is the normal turn around from manuscript being in to being published. I was under the impression it was about 6-9 months.
Anyone have any light to shed on the topic?

I haven't heard a release date mentioned. I have seen "pipeline" statements for late 2009. But that's about it. I love this series, too.

Bah. Love Cook, hate Instrumentalities. One of the biggest letdowns I have ever experienced from the scenario of reading material from a respected author that is not the material I was originally exposed to.

But, that was so long ago! You were a different name! I thought it needed to be rehashed for the newer folks. My opinions are that important!

Quick question about mr cooks works. I started reading his black company stuff last year when the first what 7 came out in 2 anthologies. But there are still like 3 or so more books that are out of print that finish the story. Will they be comming out as an anthology? or do i just need to go find old copies somwere?

Don't know, and all the old copies are expensive. I assume you are talking 'Books of the Glittering Stone', right?

The first two books of 'Books of the Glittering Stone', Bleak Seasons and She is the Darkness, are coming out in omnibus form in 15 September 2009 US. It's called the Return Of The Black Company.
I don't know about the last two book sorry.

Just as Lobo says, the omnibus edition is coming soon.
Check this Amazon link or dig through Pat's Fantasy Hotlist for a good look at the brilliant cover.

I just finished Glen Cook's story in Songs of the Dying Earth. It was a bit meh. He doesn't really have the gift for a Vancian approach to language and the story was slight. Plus it involved Rhialto and the fellow members of his magicial cabal, and I always felt this was among the weaker of Vance's storylines.

Seems a Darkwar omnibus is out. I read the trilogy a year ago (ordered used on Amazon) and it's among the best he's written. It's a bit Van Vogt-style with the main character going from humble beginnings to power on the galactic scale, and extremely dark.

Hey, I have been hearing alot of things about glen cook, and decided to look for his works, but I did not have any luck until recently when I found the books of the south, three published in one. Anyway, I am likeing it so far, and was hoping somebody could tell me what the best order to read them would be? It is hard to find info on this guy.

It's very cool that you like it, but the story has a whole hell of a lot more impact if you read in the order published.
I picked up The Return of the Black Company and I love it.
"Murgen's" style of writing seems to explain the occasional tonal shifts in Cook's earlier writing and it's kind of funny/interesting that Cook "explains" it or at least nods his head to it.
I know Water Sleeps and Soldiers Live are already out, but I'm definitely buying the omnibus editions. Amazing art, well put together and a joy to read.
