the malazan world covers it for me

Wu just doesn't sound right and I'm not sold on the burn being the world thing.

I always pictured burn as being the god/lord of earth/land etc but not actually BEING the land. And besides in a world that like our is mostly water it seems to me if burn is literally the land itself, burn would have to give over control of a large quanity of the world to mael and his vast oceans. Burn + Mael would be a truely crap world name,

Besides it isn't confirmed if burn is elder either is it? Burn would have to be in order to 'be' the world but im sure burns warren is new isn't it?

[edit] giving it more thought I remeber Poliel refereing to Burn as being the land itself so not overly to sure what to think anymore

Burn is more like the embodiment of the concepts of mother nature, the land, etc. though she is a 'young' entity to such as Raest and certainly not Elder, it could well be that it is just her sentient manifestation that is recent, while she was there before in a more passive state.

Wu... Burn is the Goddess. The world existed long before her, and that suggests that there were other Gods and Goddesses of the planet. It'd be like calling Rashan and KG(Wei lmao) the same thing, in my eyes.
Wu, however, has a snappy definiton, cheers Gem, and also is short, concise, and everyone knows it...
Alternatively we could just call the planet Planet Of The Bhokarala!

Wu to me will always be the Chinese dynasty. It does sound slightly "sissy" but what are you going to do - others insist on using it.

Yeah that is what I thought about when I first heard 'Wu' being used as a name for the planet.
I also always think of Sun Ce from Dynasty Warriors...I don't like mixing redundant, monotonous videogames (which, I reluctanly admit, I do have fun playing :D) with super crazy awesome, original, mind blowing, funny, scary, poignant in all respects, books.

Plus it's sissy. So I don't use Wu.

I'm all right with Burn, but it isn't my first choice...
...which is the 'the world'

Burn is a goddess. Wu is a made-up word. It's just 'the world'. (and we are the children....)

I kinda like the name Burn cause according to Greek and Roman mythology Gaia is the name of our world so even the Malaz world should be named after a Goddess but the point made by Lisheo makes sence

I call it Wu and unless SE/ICE give it an official name in the encyclopedia I always will. Also I really hate when people call it Malaz/Malazan/Malazan world just like I hate when people say Middle-Earth when they really mean Arda.

The name Wu came from the joke name SE and ICE used based off the name of a doctor from the title of a Steely Dan song - this Steely Dan song, in fact - when asked about it in an interview years ago. I was perfectly fine taking the credit for mentioning it here first until you all decided it was a dumb name for literally no good reason, you cocks
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
