I know. Although I read a report by some welsh guy (I think he is in connection with the Welsh FA) saying that Cardiff shouldn't be allowed into Europe because that will apparently make them English. I think he was on about it being short term gain and stuff. It was a load of crap...

Here we go, found it. :D

So the fact that they play in the English league and are from the really really english part of wales is irrelevant to this?? :D

Meh. The Welsh are weird. It's not "Yay! A Welsh team in Europe at last boyos!" it's "MOAN MOAN MOAN!! THIS MEANS THE ENGLISH ARE TAKING OVER OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY BOYOS!!!"

Of course it's all rather academic, as I'm fairly certain Pompey will beat them. Unless of course Everton nose-dive and Pompey nick 5th spot, in which case they qualify regardless of the result in the final. (And Everton would also still qualify bizarrely, through the fair play league...) It's a twisted system, it really is.

That article is false.

There isn't a Welsh national anthem :o

There is. It took me by surprise too. I went to see Wales vs Fiji in the Millenium Stadium (rugby game in the Northern Hemisphere tour) and suddenly everyone was singing this song. I was with my welsh friend, who practically had tears in her eyes, whilst singing it in some barbaric tongue... I just stared at her in surprise. I mean since when have they had their own anthem? And do they really deserve it? Surely it is all just part of England?

Oh for sure, they have a "song".

But the national anthem of Wales is God Save the Queen.

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi

A very stirring song it is.

Reason I am posting is that I am from Cardiff, live in the US and want to watch the FA Cup. My brother is a season ticket holder but is taking his Son to the game (brothers!!). So even if if I could afford to fly over I would still have to scalp a ticket at some exhorbitant price. I guess i'll just have to hope that it is getting televised over here.

Diolch yn dda! (or however you spell it. ;))

Shame you can't come and see it. I wanted to get tickets but I reckon they are all sold out now. It would be awesome to watch an FA Cup final in the new Wembley. (Ironic: The first time Cardiff get to the finals in 80 years, and it's the first final not to be held in Cardiff for ages... *sigh*)

Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol chantorion, im gwlad!

That's pretty much all I remember from my welsh national anthem knowledge, and both the words and spelling could well be out. ;)

Im amazed I remember any welsh at all to be honest, all my great aunts grandparents etc who spoke it (and as a second language anyway) have been dead since I was a little kid, and they were never keen on teaching it anyway.

Im stunned Cardiff wouldnt be allowed to play- if they're elligible for the competition, they should be elligible for the winner's competition. Makes sense.

They will play. They voted in Cardiff's favour. ;)

And don't worry about your welsh spelling, TT. Not even the Welsh get it right anyway. :D

No We Don't. My mother who didn't learn english until she was 5 refused to teach me, my brother or my father(who was willing to learn).

It would have been great if the game had been played at the Millenium stadium, be a home game!. I still wouldn't be able to afford it though.

I am sure that some of my school mates, old "Bob Bank" regulars at Ninian Park (before it was converted to all seats)will be going as well. Sad that they are going to tear Ninian Park down. Saw my first game there in 1967. Now I am showing my age!

OK, predictions for the game? I reckon if Cardiff can get a goal in the 1st 20 minutes, they have won it. They will play a tight defensive game, and the one goal (most likely a fluke! :D) will be the winner. However if they finish the first half on a draw or a loss, I think Portsmouth have it. Will be fun to watch. :D

Pompey 2-1, Kranjcar to score the winner. Is Defoe cup-tied?
