An ex of mine got me to read The Furies of Calderon a couple years ago, and it was interesting enough to get me to continue the series. I was just curious about what other opinions on it could be found.

Personally, I loved the idea of furies.

Butcher's furies are actually what seem to be the equivalent of elementals that people are able to either become friends with and control or seize control of. People use them in everyday life to light lanterns, communicate long distance via water, etc.

I read the first 3. Haven't gotten around to picking up book 4. I was kinda expecting the series to have wrapped up in book 3. I like the series, but I want to read a few other things before getting book 4.

I don't see the appeal of a series about people who dress up in full body animal costumes and jump on each other at conventions...

- Abyss, oh, wait... fuRies...

i've read em all, and enjoy them. Butcher is a good popcorn novel author. Interesting characters, easy reads, and kind of funny.

Is it first person, like Dresden? I haven't heard much about this series, just Butcher's little thing about writing fantasy at the end of the Dresden book.

Cool, I'm curious to see how Butcher handles the switch to 3rd person. I'll look into finding the first in the series.

I've been tempted to check this out, as I like Butchers writing, and yeah, the idea of Furies is hella cool!

Not bad and not great but certainly a nice read while waiting for something else :p

Strangely one of the few things that irk me with the Alera books is the amount of pages spent fighting things :p And occationally even more pages spent travelling...

About wrapping it up in three books its intended to be a 6 book series...and so far I think it gets better the further it goes.

O and the Canim? (wolf people) are certainly a nice fantasy enemy...people thingy...

I have been tempted to get this series because I have heard good things and I love the Dresden files... so I now Butcher is a good author, but I just haven’t taken the plunge yet...

I like butcher's dresden stuff but I was fairly reluctant to pick them up, as I knew they were essentially a re-write of some of his unpublished work prior to the dresden files. Anyway I picked up the first one not expecting much and I enjoyed it immensely, so much so that I went out and picked up the other three books in the series the next day.

I highly recommend it, it's not quite as good as the dresden files, and it's not in the same class as erikson, but its pretty good light fantasy in the david gemmel/brandon sanderson mode, and butcher writes it very well.
