A frustrating series. So many good elements about it but then so much other stuff which severely undermines it. However, the strongest thing about it that I recall is that it does get better as it goes along with the fourth volume (as far as I got last time) being the best of the ones I read. The other three are sitting on the shelf waiting to be read as well.
Actually, looks like I've a fair amount of rereading to do. Looking forward to a JV Jones re-read next year in advance of the summer 2008 publication of
A Sword from Red Ice in paperback, and will probably kick off the
Wheel of Time re-read once we know when Book 12 is coming out. Assuming late 2008/early 2009, I'd probably have to start that next summer as well (since review copies will be arriving intermittently as well). Might do a
ASoIaF reread before ADWD comes out, although that might get squeezed out due to time constraints.
