Today I picked up The Complete Lyonesse by Jack Vance, in the (fake?) leatherbound Gollancz trade paperback edition. I've read his Dying Earth stuff, some I loved, some I hated. And I was pretty bored by his sci-fi To Live Forever. But I've heard good things about Lyonesse, and for under $6, I couldn't pass it up. (Also I'm a sucker for omnibus editions.)

It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Joyce's Dubliners. Somehow I've been rather meh about reading regularly recently, hope this will bring me back to it.

Death Masks.
On kindle. Having a big fix of Dresden, and since I can't find my copy, I sort of bought it again.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

They have it on Amazon for $26 + $3.99 shipping. It includes Raft, Timelike Infinity, Flux, and Ring. There are still a bunch on there. If you search Xeelee you'll just see one offer for like $400 but if you search Stephen Baxter, you'll find more, most for around $26. But if they have it on Kindle for $16 then I'd go that way - I didn't know that when I bought mine.
Now that you mention it, it seems like I did run across this one, but none of the blurbs impressed me except for Ring's anyway... They all work as standalone novels according to the author, so I'll wait to see if Ring blows me away before I rethink my purchase...

I should read that this year too. Araby is one of my favorite short stories but I've never dived in for the rest.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Ordered a metric shitload of Star Wars TPB graphic novels from Amazon. Surprised how far behind I got.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

It better do, cause it looks like I will be illustrating something by Joyce for my final project, and I feel like my brain needs to be eaten and spat out again to even remotely get what I can do with that.
Oh, and I bought a book that's been recommended to me by my prof about how artists used to insult other artists since the invention of the profession. Sadly, it's in german, but damn am I looking forward to reading that

I picked up some more of Lee Child's Jack Reacher series, namely Echo Burning, Bad Luck and Trouble and Worth Dying For.
Has anyone else read (parts of) this series?

Read all but the latest one. Good stuff for just sticking yr brain in neutral and enjoying the read, but the last two or three have been almost indistinguishable.

From what I've read so far (the first, Killing Floor, and #13, Gone Tomorrow) it is indeed relatively simple brain candy. Coming off of a 700-page epic, that can sometimes be exactly what I need, though.

Finished _Blade of Tyshalle_ last night. Awesome. Not nearly as much swearing as I'd been led to expect, or perhaps it was just so well integrated into the prose that it didn't break the flow. Nor was the book as unremittingly bleak as you guys paint it, IMO. But then, I never believed Caine wouldn't find a way. Bring on _Caine Black Knife_!

Caine Black Knife fucking fixes that shit. I actually thought the same thing until I read it.....then I was like......fuck.

Yep. BoT has four protagonists (according to Stover) so Caine is only part of the book. HD is the same way.
But starting with CBK it's all-Caine-all-the-time.
