At the small comic con on Sunday I got the SUPERMAN: GODFALL tpb (by the late Michael Turner) which I've always wanted to read...and SUPERMAN & SUPERGIRL: Maelstrom by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti (one of my fave writing teams) and I got both for $2....that's right TWO trades for $1 a piece. MY copy of GODFALL says "For Gus" on the cover and the signature is neither author nor artist...but meh, I'm not fussed how it looks, just wanted to read it.

I got a LITTLE screwed when I was watching my god-daughter in her stroller while her dad searched the stacks...and could only watch as the guy, who's stack they were, pointed this girl at ALL the old DOCTOR WHO comics he had....she found like 10 of them....I could only watch helplessly as she snagged and bought them all. Wish I'd have gotten there first!

I was standing there trying to figure out if I could feasibly push the stroller over to the stacks and dig through the "D"s before the girl could get over there without looking like a total jerk...I went with "let her have 'em"

But yeah, eye twitching is a good way to describe it.

Since they're not available at my local bookstore, and therefore I can't include them on a Christmas list for my luddite relations...I broke down and ordered the following selections from my ALIENS list:

Brightness Reef by David Brin
The Faded Sun Trilogy by C.J. Cherryh
Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds

Also grabbed a couple of $3 bargains from the Bloody Jack Adventures series of YA books about a girl pirate.

I broke my "no military SF" rule and got A Soldier's Duty by Jean Johnson. In fairness, there's no guy with a gun on the cover. It's a hot babe instead. That's totally different. Also, the plot has something to do with precognition, which intrigues me.

Finally, I'm waiting on Bitter Seeds by Ian Tregillis, which I've been wanting to read for a while, since you people keep mentioning it. It was in stock when I ordered it, but now somehow it's backordered...

I have to say I'm a bit jelly on the rest of the world, here inn Norway its something like 66$ for a recently released hardcore book. So the only way you can afford to read a lot of books as an student is to buy it from somewhere els, and then you got the nearly 2 weeks of waiting.

I've been using Amazon religiously for years, and it's no bother once you get into the habit. Do pre-orders and you'll get the new releases more or less as they appear in store too.

went to the mall earlier, and the biggest bookstore there was having a mall wide sale, so in I went, and splurged, but to my disappointment, most of the stuff on sale was mostly YA books, like Ranger's Apprentice, etc,,
but i still had items that I have bought,

Bloodlite - Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris, etc,, just bought this for the Dresden Files short story - Day Off

The Alloy of Law - Brandon Sanderson, &

Best Served Cold - Joe Abercrombie, Gollancz Paperback Edition, still bought this even though I already have the Orbit PB Ed,

may come back tomorrow, i left bks 1 of Demon War & Dark War Saga - Raymond E Feist, 2 bks of Shadow-something of Tad Williams
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Just pre-ordered A Memory of Light having just finished listening to Towers of Midnight. Hopefully my library will get the audiobook in at the same time so I can listen to it, as I've listened to the others, but if not, I'll be reading it as soon as it arrives - and then I'll listen to it whenever the library gets it - or I may just join audible.com for a month or two to get it for cheap.

Against my better judgement, I hit up Half Price Books yesterday. Was tempted by a bunch of stuff on their clearance rack, but held myself to:

The Red Tree by Caitlin R. Kiernan
Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase by Hideyuki Kikuchi
Hunter's Run by GRRM/Garder Dozois/Daniel Abraham

"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Picked up SALUTE THE DARK on my way home tonight, seeing as I only have about 25 pages left of BLOOD OF THE MANTIS, I'll probably jump right into the 4th book.

Is that the Salute Your Shorts tie-in novel, where we finally get the origin story of camp counselor "Ug" Lee?

I figured that it's been too long since I've dipped my interest in Science Fiction literature, so when I discovered Jack Campbell's "LOST FLEET" series at the book store today I, upon returning home, immediately ordered the first two books (DAUNTLESS and FEARLESS) from Amazon.

Hopefully they'll arrive this week.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Amazon threw a copy of Dauntless at me too, which I'll be reading on the 7 h buss trip home for christmas.
