Currently reading Introducing Garrett P.I. by Cook, finished the first story, started the second. Nice, but nowhere near amazing.
Also halfway Against a dark background by Iain M. Banks (I'm getting addicted to his writing style and ideas) and The Last Light of the Sun by Kay.

The other recently acquired additions to the TRP are:

Excession, The State of the Art, Feersum Endjinn all by Banks,
Agent to the Stars by Scalzi
The Dervish House by Ian McDonald
Side Jobs, by Butcher
The Informers, by Brett Easton Ellis

In non-fiction:

The Whisperers, A People's Tragedy and Crimea by Orlando Figes
The Mystery of Olga Chekhova by Antony Beevor,
The Magic behind the Michelin Star by Paul van Craenenbroeck,
The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman,
The Fat Duck Cookbook by Heston Blumenthal (which is part cookbook, part foodtography and part biography).

On QT's pimping elsethread, I added the omnibus editions of Michael Sullivan's entire Riyria series to my OST pre-order - amazon.uk had them at 5.99lbs each, which with a little exchange rate fu, worked out to less than the .ca or .com prices when i'm already paying for shipping - which has the added massive huge good bonus of giving me an entire series to read back-to-back post Malazan fix.

Now, you might point out 'but Abyss, amazon.ca has OST as of Jan 24... you need not rely on those evil Empirialist bastards and their Deutchpost flunkies'... to which i say yes, that's what .ca CLAIMS. I know better.

Went on a Richard K. Morgan splurge. Bought The Cold Commands, Broken Angels, Market Forces, and Woken Furies. My bookstore was out of Side Jobs though. Guess that just means I have to take a trip to the big one downtown again.

Just wanted to stop by and give you a personal thank you for ordering the Riyria series. I'm getting pretty excited about the release...being published with a "big publisher" with world wide distribution is pretty sureal for me. Please let me know what you think...good bad or indifferent I'd rather have feedback than silence. I truly hope it brings you hours of entertaining reading.

In this age of ten-book mega epics that take several decades to completion, a full series to read back-to-back is always a treat, and QT hasn't steered me wrong yet, so i'm really looking forward to it.

And be assured that i WILL post feedback, either here or directly to you.

...but regardless feel free to visit this forum any time for whatever reason. It's a pretty level headed bunch for an unruly mob of fantasy lit fans.

I had promised myself that i would have waited until A Dance with Dragons came out in Italian before buying it, so that for once I would have read a series completely in one language. Of course, as I walked in the foreign books session of the bookshop, I saw it there in all his glory and my willpower crumbled so fast it was almost embarrassing.

So,to cut short a long story, I've already read 200 pages. Yay!

Picked up the TPBs of Steven Brust's Book of Jhereg and Book of Taltos for $2 each on Friday. I also saw the first Shadows of the Apt book for $3, but passed on it.

Also Asher's Hilldiggers for some reason.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Picked up the second and third Shadows of the Apt books (DRAGONFLY FALLING and BLOOD OF THE MANTIS) just so I have them ready to go when I finish the first.

My Barnes & Noble had them in Downtown Minneapolis, as does my local one here in Wilmington...

Half Price Books in Crystal, MN. I picked up the $3 copy today (off the clearance rack), but they've also got the TPBs of the first 3 Apt books for $7-8 each (whatever half price works out to be.)

THE COLD COMMANDS by Morgan for my Kindle. I'm itching to read it, but I'm going to polish off EMPIRE IN BLACK & GOLD first as I'm really enjoying it!

3 Kovaks books by Morgan. If I don't like them then QT's head is going up Abyss' ass.

I bought Rosemary's Baby, seeing as how I always try to read a classic creepy story around Hallowe'en. Last year's book was The Haunting of Hill House, which was good but not as scary as I'd hoped. Next year I may go for Mark Z. Danielewski's House of Leaves...or maybe Richard Matheson's Hell House, just because I loved I am Legend.

Sadly, according to my friend who's read most of his stuff, Matheson's work other than I AM LEGEND pretty much comes down to low budget porn...though I'm not sure if HELL HOUSE fits into that category. I just know that after he read I AM LEGEND he went out on a spree to read all Matheson's work and found it...er...wanting.

Historically if both I and QT vouched for a book, the vast rest of you loved it, so i think we're good.

But in any event if you don't like them you're clearly cold and dead inside and we can put you out of our misery like the zombie-hearted darkness that you know you are...
