Just got my review copy of Retribution Falls (for the US market) and am really looking forward to reading it. Heck, I'd be reading it right now if I hadn't started Stover's second Barra book early this afternoon.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
―Gene Wolfe, The Citadel of the Autarch

Told you so.

MEG. By Steve Alten.

This is inherently a weak book. Flat characters. Predictable plot, what there is of it. Generally mediocre all around. At best.

Except when the MASSIVE SIXTY FOOT JURASSIC SHARK is 'on screen', in which case BEST BOOK EVER!

Okay, not really, not really even close, but for a fairly quick lite read, the scenes between shark attacks are basicaly just filler and the shark scenes are awesome fun.

Truly a turn-the-brainz-off book in most ways. But great monster shark carnage.

reedin some Three Musketeers. I like a lot of classics, but it's good to find a classic author who knows how to write something simply fun sometimes.

in lieu of my Cuba vacation, I have purchased Book 3 of Otherland. I will re-read the first two and then the 3rd one, and then buy the 4th once I come back (lousy local chapters didn`t have a copy of the last book)

also picked up 2 new authors: Glenda Larke--2 volumes of a trilogy, sounded non-generic enough, (and had a nice map), and Kate Griffin--À madness of Angels, seemed somewhat dredenesque, but darker. meh, we`ll see.

13 if you include the short story collection Side Jobs. Rumor has it he plans to do 20 or so, then wrap things up with a trilogy.

I just had a physical reaction to the thought of 23 Dresden books. Not that. It was more of a whole body twitch upwards, as if I could step outside, hop into my car and immediately set about acquiring all 23 books right goddamn now.

I'd totally do that if it were at all humanly possible. I can't imagine what SF readers in 30 years will experience once they get good and truly hooked on the Dresden-crack and see that it doesn't get worse at all...

To be honest I think we'll have to see what happens in the Dresden series.

I did not like Changes. And he postponed Ghost story because he was having problems with it. I think the series is at an impasse. Butcher is making changes and ramping up the scope of the series. This may be good or it may kill it.

You have one of the greatest cases of erratic taste in any human being ever. I will chalk up your lack of faith in Butcher to being burnt by following that sense of taste far too many times.
