It's not bad. Better than it intitially seems, at least.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Just picked up Foxtrot Oscar by Charlie Owen, the sequel to Horses Arse which is very funny.
Also got The Heroin Diaries by Nickki Sixx from Motley crew. I have the Album which accompanies this book and the album tells a great story.
Got both books for £3 (hardback) and £6 from HMV so nice bargains.

Adrian Tchaikovsky - "Empire in Black and Gold", "Dragonfly Falling" (already read the first one when Mr. B bought it, now looking forward to the sequel)
Alan Campbell - "Iron Angel" (won't end up on the top of my to-read pile since the first book didn't really knock me off my feet, but I do want to know which direction the story is going)
R. Scott Bakker - "The Judging Eye" (a belated Christmas-Present for Mr. B; I don't want to even touch it, but I'm afraid I will be tricked into reading it at some point - Mr. B is a merciless Bakker-fan)

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.

Charles Stross -- _The Merchant's War_
Kristin Cashore -- _Graceling_
If you haven't read Charles Stross, I recommend this series (starts with _The Family Trade_). Great writer. Buy on sight for me these days.

John Scalzi -- _The Ghost Brigades_ and its sequel. TGB is a sequel to _Old Man's War_, which was great.
Steven Baxter -- _Coalescent_. Haven't tried Baxter for ages, thought I'd give him another shot with this, the first in his current series.

Almost picked up Storm Front but plumped for Peace and War (Haldeman) instead
Just recently received and read Catcher in The Rye...wish I hadn't bothered. It's kinda like reading Moby Dick, I mean, you want to tell people you have actually read them but wish somehow you could get the wasted hours back. Not all 'classics' are actually very good...

The Files are pretty good. Although, when did he stop numbering them? Do I just read in order of release now?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
