i like the books based on the Magic the Gathering storylines, which is, for those who don't know, is a trading card game. The best i think is The Thran, The Kamigawa Cycle, and Ravnica Cycle

Sorry to spam the thread - I just freaked out because there's another shad...er, kage in Queens. Crazy.
Uh, so I've never read any of the books or played the card game. What are they like?

The first books are great, the The Thran, the Brothers war Quadrilogy (it's a word now), The Dark Cycle. They did a great job building the entire series up to the grande finale in the Onslught cycle, then it all went to shitty throwaway fantasy novels I think.
Mirrodin, Ravnica, Kamigawa, Lorwyn, are all pretty freaking awful I think. Reminds me of crappy Goodkind.
However, the Gathering Dark and the Brothers war are what got me started on reading full novels when I was a kid, and still re-read them once a year. Two fantastic fantasy novels.

I never read the books, but I still have my champion deck. I owned that game in 1997

I have a green/white deck, that if I survived for 6 turns in tourny play, I was unbeatable.

read some 40k stuff.
the Cain novels mainly.
they're pretty good, remind me a lot of the Flashman books.

green/blue.
but sometimes all green
but sometimes all green
My white/green had protections, avenging angels, serra angels, pegasis sanctuarys, and congregate. 4 of each (tourny max).
When I was ready to end a game, I would basicly have 15-20 flying 3/3 green creaters, a couple avenging's for defense, and 50-100 health, and the just start the onslaught.
Only thing it lost to was burn decks that got some good cardpulls

I figured this thread would get more than 1 post about the books before it completely de-railed, oh well.

I've never read any books in popular series like this or warhammer, dragonlance, star trek etc. just assumed they were crap.
As for my deck, you would never have time to get all that out against me, obdi

I don't need to get all of anything out... there was more in it than that, mostly disposable white or green creatures since I had to meet the 60 card limit

Lol I sold it about 2 years ago after my last tourny, since none of my friends were playing anymore.
Its probably not as good as I remember, nostalga and all that.
If you had a ruin deck, which was pretty much 'you take x damage' x80% of the cards, just different cards, I get destroyed pretty fast, but most people did.
My friend made a Skald (I think that was the name? the creatures that got better and new abilities when you but more in play?) deck that basicly made all his creatures like flying 6/6 overrun creatures. It was sick, but it was only 30 cards.

well, i play mostly black/blue control stuff, like dream's grip and such, unless i want to be cheap, in which case i play a red no creature burn deck. i don't play that much anymore because i can find players, to my dismay. and i have play in a tourney yet, but i plan on buying into one once i get my summer job and some cash in my pockets
i think the ravinca cycle was good, and the kamigawa was that bad, but the rest of the newer one did suck.
