Thanks for that.

Seems neither Crokus nor Paran were too ecstatic about possessing an item 'blessed' by Oponn.

Need to get my hands on my own copies of these novels, both for reference, and because these belong in a personal library. Some fantastic pieces of literature.

Yeah, I don't think any explanation beyond Paran's growing sense of fatalism is needed to explain his response to the Hounds at this point in the story. He resents the games of gods and figures he's pretty screwed anyway.

Agreed. There may be some foreshadowing going on of things later. But a teeth-baring-snarl seems an appropriate response given all that Paran saw of these hounds so far.
