Hi, sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm reading GotM and a few things have popped up that are making me wonder.
Spoilers follow. Do not read if you don't want spoilers.
First, after the fight on the rooftops with Kalam and the Tiste Andii, when Rake is asking what happened, and is told that one of his men has a broken neck, he says: "Send him to the High Priestess to be healed" or something like that. Who is this woman, and do we hear from her again in the series?
Second, Rake tell Barak that two thirds of Laseen's High Fists are former assassins. Do we know of any one he was refuring to?
Cheers folks.

I thought they referred to Silana when they mentioned the High Priestess? Now I'm not so sure. As for the High Fists being ex assassins....
Or have i remembered that all wrong again?

"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

coughGOTMismcough.....
it doesnt seem very andii like for there to be a high priestess, that would mean they worshipped a god, and I dont think it would be mother dark because no one has been talking to her?

Good questions. I've got no idea who the "High Priestess" is, but regarding:
That quote followed on from the discussion of Assassin's Guilds - specifically the proven Malazan tactic of paying a city guild to eliminate the local leadership and take power in the name of the Empire. This is what the Bridgeburners attempted with Vorcan, remember?
So you would assume that many of the fists in previously conquered territories came into their positions via this assassination route. This would then apply to the governor-fists who govern cities, not the military-fists who command armies. So why haven't we seen any such fists?
Two reasons that I can think of
- we don't actually spend much story time in long-conquered Malazan territories, excepting Seven Cities (where there's no evidence that this tactic was ever used). So there's no scope to get to know these assassin-Fists as characters.
- the concept of an Assassin's Guild is a strong GotMism. It's not a spoiler to note that the notion of such a guild is another one of those fantasy staples (even a cliche) that was prominent in GotM and then vanished in the later books. And the "Assassin-Fists" went with it.

People, people this is THE GARDENS OF THE MOON forum.
It doesn't matter if you write dont read thi, Deadhuse gates/Midnight tides spoiler or "**** spoiler *****"
If you're going to post a spoiler in this forum at all it's put inside a Spoiler box. The original question was a legitimet(sp?) question that will interest GotM reader that won't necessarily have read the other books yet.
Some admin needs to go through some of those posts.
That said, I don't remember if the high priestess name or race is revealed, but it's entirely possible it's some traveller or representative of another people that Rake and the Andii have met on their way. For all we know it could be somebody from Broods army. It doesn't have to an Andii and therefore Priestess might not be a GotMism.
Originally I thought it might be the big female dragon captain aswell.

There you go, mainly minor spoilers but I'll hide them none the less.
Had a quick flick through GotM, and nothings revealed about the high priestess that I could see.
And I'd say the 1st reason of dolorous' is the most likely, we just haven't seen that many fists from conquered malazan territories.
