Just about half way through RG, careful with the spoilers
Man, I like this character. They're so purposefully evil...kinda like skeletor. Evil for the sake of being evil almost. I like the inner dialogue from him too, because he's smart and knows it and completely thinks he's above everybody else. They're so bad you know they're going to get murdered before the end of the book, but at the same time you kinda hope they'll win somehow.
Does anybody else think Triban Gnol is a solid character?

I think you should finish the book before you post a thread that will certainly result in you reading storyline spoilers.
And no, I don't like him at all.

I really hated Triban Knoll and the leader of the Patriotist aswell. It was like meeting Korbolo Dom and Mallick Rel all over again!
They ruined the wonderfull MoI like showdown I wanted.
Poor Edur. Human beings are evil, foul creatures that should be erased...

Yeah he pretty much sucked at life.
- I wish everything bad in life happened to him and only him.....twice.

All, right i'll avoid spoilers.. but no, i don't like him. He's not a bad written character, and you can understand his motivations, but his badness makes me hate him....

Oh, I definitely hate him, but I like his character and what it is doing so far in RG. I find he adds another cool and pretty crucial element of evil to the Letherii society, in that their upper echelon of government is occupied entirely by crazy power-mad geniuses. I figure him and Invictad are getting set up to take a huuuuge fall and it will be satisfying as hell when they do.

I think that my favourite characters are all ones that you aren't supposed to like, like Gnol and Felisin, and The Mhybe, and especially Kallor. They're just written so well, almost as if Erikson is writing about himself
Likable characters are good for a book, but well written characters, likable or not, are great for a book.

yeah, I forgot about Kallor. He's got Gnol beat on the Evilometer.
"Just a sec while I kill everyone on my whole continent cause I'm mad at some gods"
--kallor
I can't help but picture him as a buff Bob Barker

It's no coincidence that when you spell his name backwards you get Long Nabirt.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
