The Genre of the Malazan Book of the Fallen

I was wondering, with all this confusion about what the different sub-genres of Fantasy incorporate, how would you characterize the MBotF? What genre(s) does it belong to?

I think 'military fantasy' is obvious, but what about heroic fantasy (epic/high fantasy) and sword & sorcery for instance?
