... I still think this is the best book in the Malazan series, so far.

Some observations:

Even when I knew what was coming, I still choked at what happened regarding WhiskeyJack after Dujek, Mallet, Paran and Quick Ben got back from Coral, including the scene inside Moon's Spawn. That stuff was built up and written extremely well.

Itkovian. Again, a very well written tragical character. I especially like how he dealt with Rath'Fener. The stuff with the T'lann Imass at Coral seemed inevitable after that.

Picker and Blend. I loved them both, and the scene with Bauchelain and Korbal Broach makes me cheer, because it is extremely funny. The part where Blend offered a worthless amulet to Quick Ben was very moving, just like the part where Blend covers Picker from the shards of a detonation (in Coral), and has to be healed by Lady Envy. There were jokes about this earlier on the forum, but I am convinced that Blend and Picker are indeed lovers.

quote:

Blend closed her eyes.
'Well, that settles it, then,' Lady Envy said. 'We return to the keep's roof. Swiftly, before Kilava robs me of my vengeance against the Seer.'
'You can return to the roof,' Picker growled. 'We're leaving.'
Leaving, oh, my love...

That is definitely Blend's pov.

Toc the Younger is cool as well, especially in his sarcastic thoughts, like when he thinks on Tool killing a deer by scaring it to death by undusting in front of it. I hope he has kept that way of thinking.

I know Lady Envy is generally hated here, but I like her. She's good for interesting dialogues, even though she seems to be the cheerleader among ascendants. I hope we will see more of her. Posted Image

Mott Irregulars. Those hillbilly-swamp High Marshalls are fun. I would love to see what happens when the Bole brothers (and sister) do get to visit Bauchelain and Broach.

Some questions:

That imploded Tiste Edur that washed up. Should I know who this is after reading MT?

The sacking of Callows (the first city Lady Envy, Toc and company find). Who did that? Are the Tiste Edur roaming the seas that much? I know they are looking to get to Drift Avali, but why would they raid and annihilate a coast town?
