They're all of a similar style, I would imagine, quite etheral, a figure in the centre of the card (or in one case, sevenPosted Image) with weird swirly stuff around the edge is how I'd always imagined them, although I would expect your artistic judgement to be better than mine. You have talent after all, which I don'tPosted Image

not really i doubt all the high house dark cards are just black throughout, that would be odd, now if the was some way to draw it totally black but have it bumped to create the definition, then we could print it out on like brail paperPosted Image ahahaha im a genius i sayPosted Image

really like shadowthrone mez good job Posted Image

I did a pic of Cotillion tonight using a crappy HB pencil and some scrap paper! Once I got going with my doodle, I just couldn't stop. Now my hand hurts! What does anyone think?

I like your Rake card DiB. The problem with it being shadowy is kinda funny when he's the Knight of High House Dark ......... For some reason I've always thought that Moon's Spawn would look roughly like a Walnut Whip without the nut on top! My mind works around chocolate!

I like the Hound as well Khep, I've had a few tries at them myself but I can't do dogs anatomy well enough to get their body language matching their facial expressions. If I do anything I'm willing to share, I'll stick it up.

You'd be shocked if there was a city inside a giant walnut whip!

I've finished my Shadowthrone card........ I really should do some work :/

i did try that, the only problem with making it dark is you cant see anything... we arent tiste andii so therefore cant see in the dark!!!! shocking i know!!!

every variation i make which is darker, ever rake himself. well i lose any definition and all i can make out is the scaly legs and the white hair Posted Image

It remember doing some drawings years ago, using black paper and only highlighting the light areas with white pastel. Dragnipur would catch the light a treat.

you know i know it says obelisk is burn in the books and all but in dhg they imply that icarum is obelisk, well i thought they meant icarum, but you know it might have been tremelor aswell. one of the unaligned and the past future and present stands still. where else is that true but in icarum?? or indeed the azath?? i for some reason thought burn was in high house life, considering caladan is almost her knight i thought she was part of a hhouse, he uses denul the healing warren sure because of his connection with her. just musing i suppose.

Heheh. This is gonna be a challenge and a half. Just the way I like it. I always imagined the cards as a dark brown colour (except the picture bit) with a reasonably thick border. I too thought there would be a lot of misty/swirly stuff in the background to emphasise the 'otherwordly' feeling. Do you think the actual picture would have a painted look or would it be more... realistic? Hmmm... I'm going to have to think on this...

Tiste Simeon Ra-Duin hoffi Cwch!! Posted 12 March 2005 04:17 PM
I also saw them being brown and almost woody around the edges. I think they are quite clear, but painted? I never saw them as painted. More, photogrph/computer imagery. But not animation. Hmm... not reall helping am I? I think the swirling is goo, but on the edges of the picture itself.

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 12 March 2005 06:06 PM
I'm not sure how the deck of dragons would have photo-realistic images on them. Obviously they are made and there is more than one deck... and they obviously dont have cameras... Hmmm... I'm not sure how I would portray that part of the card.

caladanbrood //histler Posted 12 March 2005 09:54 PM
Urm. Yeah. Painted Tiste, I'm ashamed at you, don't you remember the whole part of MoI where Silverfox paints the Master of the Deck card? Call yourself obsessed? Tsk. By the way, If you need ideas for the hound one, I thought something like this would fit quite well well, just one hound, obviously...

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 13 March 2005 11:26 PM
Well i've drawn hell hounds previously, so i've got a pretty good picture in my head, and on paper, for that card.

Tiste Simeon Ra-Duin hoffi Cwch!! Posted 13 March 2005 05:31 PM
They were cool drawings of Dogs caladan... and I know she did paint them but I always had an image of the drawings being more lifelike than paintings...

caladanbrood //histler Posted 14 March 2005 08:15 AM
I thought you might

The Amazing Guy that says Stuff The missing Segulah Second Posted 14 March 2005 10:08 AM
Well I imagined them pretty much the same as what brook did...

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 15 March 2005 04:09 PM
ok, here's a really bad quality photo of the hound picture ive started on. ive actually only got the background and frame to do before i scan it in and colour it.

Posted 15 March 2005 04:10 PM
and here's the full body version

caladanbrood //histler Posted 16 March 2005 09:19 AM
Nice

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 16 March 2005 10:38 AM
Just one thing... Should I make the eyes black, or put pupils in, or just leave them white? I cant seem to decide.

Abeleyn Binary Monk Posted 16 March 2005 10:56 AM
Nice! I would leave them white, looks a bit more supernatural and badass methinks... .............................

Danforth Lieutenant Posted 18 March 2005 01:12 PM
It's said in the books the hounds have amber eyes, I don't know if that helps but you might want to think about it.

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 18 March 2005 02:22 PM
quote:Originally posted by Danforth:It's said in the books the hounds have amber eyes, I don't know if that helps but you might want to think about it. Oh yeah! I forgot about that. Silly me. Ok, i'll take that on board, and when I colour the beasty in on the PC, he/she shall have amber eyes.

caladanbrood //histler Posted 19 March 2005 04:55 PM
Yeah, but a dark amber. Don't forget, they are the hounds of shadow

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 20 March 2005 01:21 AM
Dont worry. i will definately see him on the dark side.

Abeleyn Binary Monk Posted 23 March 2005 01:38 PM
Nice picture, I especially like the eyes. Just one thing, the Hound itself could be a bit bulkier imo, to better convey its power. PS: the Gunslinger skull is cool .............................

Drinks in Bars WroteDrunkinGutters Posted 23 March 2005 01:43 PM
aye i know, he looked a bit skimpier than i first intended cheers

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 24 March 2005 03:40 PM
I like! Unusual style, but i like it. I think my pup will look better though.

caladanbrood //histler Posted 24 March 2005 09:26 PM
Yes, the only critisism I would have is that it doesn't look fierce enough DiB - kheprinmatu may not like this suggestion, but it wouldn't hurt us to have more than one person helping with the deck. fancy a go? Its just, there are a lot of cards

Drinks in Bars WroteDrunkinGutters Posted 25 March 2005 09:30 AM
im always up for some - creative output

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 25 March 2005 11:36 AM
*gasp* someone else impeding on my artistic licence? Nah! I dont mind. I think I would find it a struggle to do all of them. Of course, we would have to agree as to which ones we're doing.

megaphage Sergeant Posted 29 March 2005 01:08 PM
DiB >> Nice style, looks a bit like a puppy though... needs a smaller head. Would be good to view it from ground level as well to show its opposing size and presence.

megaphage Sergeant Posted 29 March 2005 01:16 PM
Baskerville Hound!http://www.elpentagr...rlockiana75.htm

kheprinmatu Captain Posted 29 March 2005 02:43 PM
One question, guys.Which one of the hounds was the white one. I cant be bothered searching through the books to find out. Heheh. I know, lazy ol' me. I think ive decided to make the hound card, the image of the white hound, although im not too sure if that will look ok. *shrugs*

Mezla PigDog High Fist Posted 31 March 2005 12:27 AM
I've uploaded pics I did of Cotillion & Shadowthrone. Let me know what I've done wrong! If I'm stepping on anyone's toes, just let me know and I'll take them off, no probs

caladanbrood //histler Posted 01 April 2005 01:49 AM
Really nice the only comment i'd make is that the rope one isn't card shaped

Mezla PigDog High Fist Posted 01 April 2005 07:08 AM
Darn, someone noticed

caladanbrood //histler Posted 02 April 2005 01:41 AM
Having these two topics seperate is silly I'll see if I can merge them...

POSSIBLE SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ MTQuestion: Isn't Rhulad the King in Chains? He's not in the first post.

caladanbrood //histler Posted 03 April 2005 01:06 AM
I got the list from the back of House of Chains... so very possibly.

Once again, apologies for the almighty cock-up... and there aren't four pages in this thread, whatever it tells youPosted Image

Hey! Not bad! Posted Image

What do you use to do your artwork?

I do have one criticism though. You cant really make out any detail. I would have prefered to see the glint in his eyes. Posted Image

Oh and im gonna sulk now, cos I wanted to do that card. Posted Image *runs away to cry in a dark corner* Posted Image

What about having everything black, but with all the detail (outline, definition etc) done in subtle shades of gray?

Might look crap though.

i always thought it was more jagged, like a floating mountain, especially in GOTM saying as baruk is shocked that theres a city inside, I just sort of lifted a picture of a mountain and sliced a big chunk of it outPosted Image

This album is for the Cards of the Deck of Dragons that we're designing as a 'personal project'.

Criticism is welcome. Posted Image

I quite like the Rake card. If one half was light and one was dark, that would make me think of shadow even more Posted Image

I think the darkness is just about right on Rake, but maybe increase darkness in the background? I dunno.

I agree with Mezla about moon's spawn - always saw it as a big walnut whip, but upside down (flat on top).

OK, re the Rake card, here's what Tattersail has to say in GotM. Selected highlights, at leastPosted Image

"The face remained blurred as it always did"
"...holding aloft a black two-handed sword that trailed smoky, ethereal chains drifting off into the into the background's empty darkness..." - see, dark backgroundPosted Image

Also, the shape of Moon's Spawn is only vaguely visible, and this is to an adept who's used the deck for however many years, she only just noticed it... obviously some artistic license is necessary, but hopefully that helpsPosted Image

Oh, and if one of you want to know, in GotM at least, the Crown card is Darujhistan. With green and blue gas light...
