Anyone else catch this fact... Emroth is "Imroth the Cruel" from HoC. One of the Seven Faces in the Rock.

What's interesting to note is that she didn't actually get obliterated in HoC, so I'm curious as to how she made her way into the afterworld/Refugium.

Think it's the same character? If so, she's definitely dead now.

Only 'siballe of the unbound got obliterated in HoC, the rest were alive and kicking, so yep its pretty clear she's the same character and one of the unbound, and yep she's clearly dead.

She seems to have been the unbound who did not join those who ambushed cutter in the bonehunters, and was presumably the bonecaster tenag ilbaie.

I missed the link, nice catch. That finally explains why there were only five Unbound at Barathol's village in the RG prologue.

Well, she even says it black on white that she's an Unbound and she kneels before the Crippled God (in the scene with Hedge blownig her up). Also the half-ripped face is, if i recall correctly, a trait she already had in HoC.

Doesn't explain the change in names though. Then again, Erikson does that a lot (no frigging idea why).

If you notice, the names that the Teblor know the Seven of the Dead Fires by are not their "real" Imass names, just corruptions of those names. Presumably Emroth is her Imass name.

Two posts ago IH says her real name was actually "Tenag Ilbaie" although I don't recall where we learn that. I seem to remember that they all chose new names to be worshippped by, though, so I don't think Emroth was her real name.

Emroth is presumably tenag ilbaie, as we learn from Monoch Ochem that the bonecaster among the unbound is Tenag Illbaie, since we know that bonecasters don't carry weapons, and all of the 5 who ambushed Crokus in BH had weapons, that presumably leaves Emroth as the bonecaster.

As to their names, all the unbound adopted new names to be worshipped by, presumably to hide themselves from passers by, emroth and imroth are pretty similar though, the difference could be accounted for by differences in pronunciation, from the imass themselves pronunciation of the word emroth, to the teblor mangling of the word, imroth.

The half-ripped face was a trait of Siballe the Unfound. The "Found"lings she has (23 in number) watch Karsa, et al. when they leave on their journey. It states that they all have a scar on the side of their face, which limits facial expression, etc.

The facial scaring of the unbound had me wondering in HoC. It was quite a coincidence that the soldier tatooed a fracture on one side of Karsa's face after he was captured.

Minion of the CG?

Nice thought but i think it is a harmless coincidence.

It will be interesting to find out what Karsa will do with his army. As Spish mentions he has 23 " Foundlings " watching him but they are just from his family and Beiroth and Dellums. Siballe has been collecting all the sacrificed children for decades if not longer. I think Karsa will have an army of thousands in addition to his Village.

I think the whole marking them on the side of their face was to show imperfection as a mark of respect to the Chain God who loves all that jazz.

So indirectly or not Karsa IS a tool of the CG.

You can tell him. I'm not!
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

The fracture tattoo actually covers his whole face, and it's not so much a scar in the Found's faces as it is a whole chunk of the left side of their faces is taken off.

Still doesn't mean Karsa isn't an unwitting tool of the CG, though. (At least some of the time)
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
