The Galayn Lord, a demon that drank Tiam's blood in the wake of Anomander and the others, snared by Tayschrenn and released by Adjunct Lorn in the hopes of defeating Anomander Rake, presuming (wrongly) that he would be weakened after dealing with Raest ...TBH, I don't know how you could miss this, the references are numerous. I've quoted a few below:
Quote
Glowing red smoke curled upward, slowly taking shape.
The Adjunct spoke: ‘You know your task, Lord of the Galayn.
Succeed, and freedom will be yours.’
Rake turned his attention to the street below. An
apparition arrived. It paused to sniff the air, then began changing –
veering. A Lord of the Galayn, and a Soletaken.
The Galayn was assuming a form better suited to wholesale destruction.
The dun-brown dragon paused, its wingtips brushing the
buildings on either side.

Thanks Malaclypse I should have known an Eleint would have the answer.
It's not so much that I missed it just that I only read GotM once whilst lounging in the Nazca desert in late 2003 before swapping it at a travelers hostel.
Since I found the ending quite confusing at the time and haven't got anything to re-read, when this passage popped into my head I thought; 'Hmmmmm?'. It makes sense now though especially the part about him having drunk Tiams blood.
It's easy to forget just how confusing GotM was when so much stuff was thrown at you out of context (or erroneously in some cases). I must get another copy...
I've been piecing together the rest rhough re-reads and these forums for the last 2 years and things from GotM keep coming to me.
Ta again.

GotM is certainly the book that benefits most from re-reads, yeah, there are some very confusing parts in there on the first read.
