I just found out that the Latin word ULTOR means avenger (Mars Ultor = Mars the Avenger).
So it's interesting that Traveller chose to call Andarist's sword Vengeance instead of Grief. If he truly is Dessembrae, the latter name would have been more logical. Then again, Dassem Ultor's choise could understandably be Vengeance.

I certainly had the feeling that as he clasped the sword he was thinking of Hood as he chose, "Vengeance".
I do not think he is Dessembrae by choice and uses the power for his own ultimate gain of having a chat with Hood.
Does Erikson look into each individual intricacy that much to then place a recognised word within our own perspective that also details the characters own plight?
Probably.
Now my head hurts.

"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

This has been mussed on before, I belive Dassem is also supposed to have a meaning in some language.

It has been mused on before.
Dassem means 'revenge' in Latin apparently. Dassem means 'revenge', Ultor means 'vengeance', Has he got the sword 'vengeance' too, and does that mean he's Traveller?
One of the longer debates from what I can gather
