So...did he remind anyone else of Forrest Gump?

I think he had the same sort of idea in writing Beak in that he was able to use all the warrens just like Gump being able to excel at absolutely anything except social skills....or whatever it is that was "wrong" with him, which I don't think there was anyway...but I think that is a very good comparison.

There's a large part of the Bonehunter army that has never seen action, and never been front-and-centre in the books. If you think about it, all we've seen are a few squads around Fiddler, and the high command (Fists, Adjunct).

SE could introduce tons of new characters from all the other sections of the army that didn't fight at Y'Ghatan or Malaz City.

Totally agree. There's a large cast of unknowns...and if Erickson wants to pull out one of these nobody's and make their role larger as a "new" character down the road why not?
Just because he does not mention a character that does nothing in books 1 to 6 and then comes into play in book 7, it does not make this deus ex machina...as long as the character is developed and crafted as part of the story...building up to their moment in the spotlight.
The price is wrong bitch!
