I don't think the CG has had any control over Karsa since he broke free of the influence of the Unbound.

CG tried to exert control in HoC - didn't work so good.

@Bottle: i think the CG's original plan did anticipate Rhulad grabbing the sword. The Warlock King only thought he was going to get it.

- Abyss, because a true master plan anticipates EVERYTHING! Even lunch.

Heheh, I think the CG certainly underestimated Karsa's indomitable will in picking him as a pawn, and has left himself vulnerable by accepting him into his house.

I agree Abyss that the CG never meant for the Warlock King to have the sword, the Jheck attack could quite easily have been manipulated to split them and force one of them to take the sword.

Hey All,

I dont want to be spreading rumours around but just spoke to a number of book stores including forbidden planet and they said they will definitely have the book on the 2nd of April.

Please god let it be true - will definitely call in sick at work that day

Maybe I have more faith in the Crippled God's cunning, or maybe I just don't remember a really important passage in HoC, but I always thought Karsa was in denial about being a tool for the CG although in reality he was actually fulfilling that role perfectly.

On more thinking I guess Abyss is right; that the CG did plan for the sword to fall into the hands of one of the travellers, else why place it in the middle of the Jheck tundra?

All this is hinting that I really need to read HoC again, I think I wasn't particularly paying attention the first run through :

But do others really think that the CG has no control over Rhulad and Karsa meeting each other?

That would be great, but 5 weeks early, is that really likely?

OTOH it was the original release date.

Just makes me think that they didn't get the memo.

Let me check with Transworld...

Last time I spoke with Erikson's publicist, she did say that the release date had not changed and was still May 7th.

I tend not to trust what the shops say at all. They're almost always wrong, through mis-information, old information or just plain wrong information. Listen to the publishers;)

Like I said, I do not want to spread rumours or give people false hopes - just relaying what I heard. If it was any normal bookstore I would have taken it with more than a pinch of salt but Forbidden Planet specialise in Science Fiction/Fantasy. Ask anyone that stays in london and has gone to that shop -they dont mess around there. They are probably the best bookstore for this genre.

I hope the guy on the phone was not bullshitting me

Absolutely, Forbidden Planet is the best SFF bookstore in Britain, no doubt.

They still get things wrong though - I imagine it's the original date they had (and we had about a month back), and that guy didn't notice it had changed.

MOD EDIT: K I read the review...didn't personally feel there were any spoilers in there just a description of the different arcs in the story. Some members apparently do feel there were spoilers so read at your own risk. If you do not like getting any information about the novel do not read it. you've been warned. -Folken

Hi guys!

First of all, let me begin by offering many thanks to both Simon and Sam at Transworld for allowing me to get an early read of Reaper's Gale. I'm really grateful for this opportunity!:)

As I said before, for my money this book is one of the best in the series, second only to Memories of Ice and Deadhouse Gates. At times it feels as though it contains more surprises than the rest of the volumes combined. Heed my advice: Expect the unexpected!:)

The book review is rather long, especially since I included a plot summary, something I seldom do. All spoiler-free, of course! So if you want to get an idea of the various arcs that comprise Reaper's Gale, check it out.

Definitely one of the best fantasy books of 2007, if not the very best! Check out the book review here.

Cheers,

Patrick

I just got confirmation from Transworld. Don't believe the rumors: the release date remains May 7th.

Oh, and I just got word that there will be a limited edition of RG. And guess who will have a copy up for grabs!?!:)

Sorry S Ruin,

I'd doubt that any of the stores would have the book 5 weeks before the official release date. I know that The Bonehunters did appear several days before release date last year but there is a significant difference between several days and several weeks.

I suggest that if (as many of us suspect) the book doesn't show up on the date that you've been told over the phone, you pay that shop a visit and stuff a cusser down that person's pants, then grab a very large helmet and hide inside. If however the book does turn up five weeks early then we'd all expect a prompt "heads up" from your good self so that we can skip down to the relevant bookstore(s) with inane grins on our faces. In turn you could no doubt expect generous quantities of reputation points for this information if it turns out to be true.

If the book is half as good as your review made it sound, damn! I have to admit, I thought the series took a bit of a lull after Memories of Ice, up until The Bonehunters (not bad at all - we were just spoiled with Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice in consecutive order).

Really looking forward to it.

I just spoke to transworld's publishing department and they said they are only releasing the trade paper back for Reapers Gale on the 7th of may. They said they are not releasing a hardback. I would have thought a hardback will be released as well?

They're probably wrong. To be blunt, Transworld is a very haphazard publisher. You could say we're lucky they took a chance with Erikson when they did, and that's true, but other than that I am utterly unimpressed with this publisher over a period of a few years. They've published hardcovers for MT and TBH, possibly for HoC as well, but before that they only did the trade paperbacks. And I'm not sure Gardens was released in trade or just in a small paperback. Anyway, it would be ridiculous if they suddenly decided to stop doing the hardcovers again in the midst of the series. I think the publicist is probably misinformed. The item is still for sale on Amazon btw.

According to Pat's site, the 'special edition' he referred to was in fact the hardback, which is printed in much smaller numbers.
So question answered?
