I don't see the confusion. Apsalar is a beautiful woman. Crokus is a young man. He did something stupid in order to stay with her. Makes perfect sense to me.

Ok, just before I go to see my therapist and tell him a good news that I might be on the trail of the reason why I've got this problem with taking relationships seriously, I just want to say that in my mind, it looks like:

a beautiful woman + young man = one-night-stand and let's see what happens next.

About your theory:

a beautiful woman + young man = immortal love at first sight...
Well, that's a weird kind of maths to me...

Maybe I just miss a more detailed description of the whole falling-in-love process - SE jumps a lot in the C/A story. On their journey to Itko Kan and afterwards, he focusses more on the stations along the way and we don't know what really happens between them during the journey.

It's quite opposite to, for example, the case of Pearl and Lostara Yil, where he continuously describes the ups-and-downs in their love/hate relationship.

No, that seems about right. You've never seen someone for a split second, on a tv screen or walking by in the street, and fallen in love right there and then?

It's worse when you know the person, as Crokus does.

Blend and Picker?

If you're asking if they are a couple, I'd say yes. :D

So, all nice and well, but even if I take up your line of argumentation, it still stirrs the question - if Apsalar is really tormented by her past and is (at least in the beginning) trying to escape from it, why for Hood's sake would Crokus choose to become an assassin? It is like holding a mirror in front of her face or rubbing those unpleasant facts she wishes to forget right under her nose. Yes, Crokus is YOUNG, but he doesn't strike me as STUPID. So I still don't see a logic in his decission...

more like he doesn't really understand what Apsalar wants. You know people don't completely understand each other. He's trying to catch up with Apsalar and help her, they do do a lot of killing back then in the book. As a man, isn't he supposed to protect his lover? rather than have her there look after him all the time? I think the AC pairing is just full of misunderstandings. People always do that sort of thing, they think they're helping by doing so and so, but in fact, end up exacerbating the problem.

Re: Nightchill and Skullcrusher. My guess is that it was Nigthchill that sought up Skullcrusher in part because she liked him and in part to battle the curse. They probably were lovers, and given the time they spent together I think there was love too (the amount of love an Elder goddess is capable of..?). But I'm convinced Skullcrusher never learned Nightchills true identity. I think of Skullcrusher's love as an adoring almost childlike kind of love for some reason. Isn't their relationship even described as him following her around?

haha, that's one pair I've totally missed. There isn't much space devoted to them. One minute they're there, the next - killed. The guy surely acts like a child, dependent on Nightchill. um, understandable, she's a goddess after all! can't have the male dominating the relationship. I'm not sure whether Nightchill really loves him. It could just be a strong sense of attachment..

OK, this one sounds logical to me, though it implies that it's all a matter of male pride - which may have something to do with love but doesn't necessarily have to...

Sure, Blend & Picker are a couple. Well, perhaps that's too strong. Blend loves Picker, and I assume the feeling is mutual.

Memories of Ice, on page 1111, said:

[A Blend POV]

Blend closed her eyes.

"Well, that settles it, then," Lady Envy said. "We return to the keep's roof. Swiftly, before Kilava robs me of my vengeance against the Seer."

"You can return to the roof," Picker growled. "We're leaving."

Leaving, oh, my love...

Ah but we dont know if they are lovers. The closest thing I saw as a confirmation was in HoC, jsut before cutter meets cot, and he was thinking something like "hollow as Apsalar's embrace at night", embrace is all nice i suppose, but I havent seen a confirmation they are lovers, for all we know they are both still virgin. And i'd say men dont understand women, they understand us perfectly
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

There's a bit about them retiring for the night at the same time somewhere as well.

Also, they are bickering like any other settled couple.

Actually, I thought it was quite clear from the beginning. The moment Crokus found Apsalar in the hills outside Darudjistan (having no idea about were she was) and the ride back to the city. Come on! It's obvious they like each other. The problems come later when Mallet decides to give back part of her memory.

Or is it al female intuition from my part :D

I don't think the Virgin of HHS has to be an actual virgin. The titles aren't that literal, imho.

Besides, Sorry was the Virgin, way back in GotM. Apsalar never has been.
