Feather Witch and Brys' Finger

The last time we read FW's point of view in Midnight Tides she is in the thrown room and notices what I automatically assumed were Brys' fingers that were cut off in his fight with Rhulad.

What we know of Brys is that the Guardian from the sea was taking Brys to be a second Guardian, watching over the old, forgotten God's thats names have been passed to Tehol.

If Feather Witch gets her hands on one of his fingers, would there be a possibility of her calling Brys back? Normally I would think dead is dead, but with Brys, without the use of a better word, ascending, to a new role would it be possible for him to be called back from this new role, back to the world of the living.

I certainly hope so, because Brys was a character that had way too much potential to die by poisoning. I've always understood when characters had to die, and truly respected the way they died. Just look at Itkovian, Whiskeyjack, most of the Bridgeburners and how they died in Memories of Ice, it was fitting. The way Brys died always left a bad taste in my mouth (pardon the punn). I even understood why it fit for Hull to die before reaching Tehol, Hull didn't deserve redemption.

Anyway, I went a little off topic there... the main point is, what do you think Feather Witch would be capable of with Brys' fingers... could she bring him back? With the possible likely appearance of Icarium and Karsa on Letheras, do you even care if Brys comes back?

Thoughts please...

Once again I apologize if any of this has already been discussed...

Well I doubt she could bring him back from the dead. She is a witch not a necromancer. I would suspect she could call forth his spirit however since that is in her realm of magic. Interesting theory though.

Just to get your hopes up.

There is going to be one more reseruction in the series. And all the other 'reseructions' are leading up to this one. SE words.

What I would say is that FW aint treating the soul of Bry's too good from the indiciation we get from Samar Dev

I think we can safely asume that since Feather B.... takes his finger and SE lets us know, she is going to make use of it. I would say that she probably will get some kind of control over his guardian form and use it in a most spectacular and nasty way.

Well his finger was right there around her neck in TB, and just because he doesn't come back to life a la resurrection, doesn't mean he can't come back at all.

FW's clashing with Samar Dev may lay the groundwork for a post-mortem Brys appearance.

- Abyss, could say Brys is now a finger-puppet.

Samar Dev taking the finger off FW would be something to see, and I'd certainly be amused by a resurrection, if only for an exchange between the oh so honorable spirit of Brys and Karsa...

Y'know... i really like that notion... everything's going to hell, Letherii, Edur, Perish and the 14th all going at it full bore all over the place, Karsa's busy fighting like everybody, Silchas is throwing down draconic-style with a ressurected Scabby, and just to make things worse, Rhulad's killed Icarium and gone (even more) bugnuts, turning large population chunks into cole slaw... Samar Dev has no handy spirits to work with, so she clocks Feather Witch across the head with a stray chunk of Tehol's leg and grabs the finger, does her invocation thing...

"Why have you summoned me from my watery sentinelship?"
"You see the extremely insane Edur dude over there turning that squad of soldiers into mulch... that's why."
"Him again? Ok, fine, but if i lose another body part i'm going to be pissed."
"You're dead. What are you complaining about?"
"It's the principle of the thing."

- Abyss, could say that Brys gave Rhulad 'the finger'.

I just wish Brys and Feather Witch had their ends swapped. But like Laseem, FW is another of those despicable characters. I'm not the type that loves to hate, I just wish someone would kill her. Sure, she's had bad things happen to her but she always treated everyone around her like feces so as far as I'm concerned she deserves anything she gets.

I especially liked when Brys selected swords for Ruin. He tapped the sword like a tuning fork and said something like, "this sounds like a dying goat."

Then he reads the arcane script on the bottom, Glory Goat. And the time he found the Ceda hanging upsidedown in his room. He was very interesting. At least he isn't gonna take kindly to Feather Witches likely abuse.

I had completely forgotten about Feather Witch wearing the finger around her neck. Seems like she's bound to do something, I wonder what a spirit Brys would be capable of? Maybe if he was given a new body like was done for Toc the Younger... hmmmm

Brys and Scabby fighting for the same body ;)
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

Why do we think individuals can possess each other? I don't think people like Brys (ie de facto dead people) can repeat a feat we've only see a god perform.

Same goes for Scabby, why do we think dead Tiste Edur can possess the living?

Scabby's worshipped as a god, and besides, what about ascendants? Raest wasn't a god, either.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Aside from Raest, Poliel was doing something odd to Torva', Cotillion possessed Sorry, Fener, Togg/Fanderlay, Trake and Hood have all invested power in a human, with resulting vulnerability, and Gothos made the point that Scabby's soul could be almost as powerful as he was with a body...

...so short of a solid 'Yes, gods' souls can possess humans', chances look good.

- Abyss, about to be possessed, by the sounds of MC Rob Bass...

Right...that 'resurrection' thing? I don't think it applies to Brys. As far as FW is concerned, Brys would not be a resurrection but a summoning and binding. Is it possible? Quite likely but maybe FW is not able to control such a thing properly. She has, after all, not been TRAINED in the arts. She but has her natural talent. This is probably why Samar says she surpasses FW in the Old Arts...hers is a studied practice combined with whatever natural abilities she already possesses.

It may very well be that the resurrection is Scabby. I think FW may try to summon Brys and bind him but end up suffering as a result.

Normally, I'm quite bitter. Yeah, bitter....Laseen is a prime example. Waiting EEEEEAGERLY to read her demise. And when Lorn was knifed like the pig she was I was MOST satisfied. But for some reason, FW (twisted thing that she is) doesn't inspire my Inner Disturbance too much. I find her curious, mainly. Her destruction wouldn't cause me too much grief but I'm not losing sleep over it.
