well, that is a little sad, as much as i like huntress having her own title, i like her better in BoP, when she's teaming with black canary, i guess it doesn't feel the same,
i could accept barbara gordon as batgirl again, but without huntress in BoP, i feel like its lacking something, and aside from poison ivy, starling and katana doesn't interest me that much,
although katana's sword is so much like anomander rake's dragnipur, it steals souls, hehehe, except the warren thing,
will check my local bookstore if they still have the huntress series,

about batman, there's so much title of him, that i don't want to spend for everything, but i'll check BATMAN,
i saw a paperback of Batgirl, cassandra cain's run, might put up a budget for that, as i like her series before it got canceled, this is the only floppies of DC i have bought before,
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

I've been sick for a couple of days, so I spent the time reading through the first two volumes of 'Powers'. At times very enjoyable.

Still working through "Hellblazer." Just started the Mike Carey run after painfully slogging through Brian Azzarello's abomination of a run. Seriously, it was some of the worst comics I've ever read. His Constantine was a grinning sociopath, sadist and pervert. John's a bastard but he's not that bad. I was appalled at the whole run. Made my day when I finally finished it and moved onto Mike Carey, one of my favorite authors.

just bought back issues of Birds of Prey #s 7-8, also a sale BoP issue way back in '11 w/ a cover of huntress,
well, i'm committed now, might be a good idea to follow this series, although i'm still missing huntress in this series,

speaking of huntress:
i also bought world's finest #1, featuring huntress & power girl,
i'm confused, as i saw in the dc site, where in someone commented that huntress/helena bertineli is dead BUT
someone also mentioned that helena bertineli & HELENA WAYNE is both one and the same?
so, how did it happen?
also in the blurb about the huntress series, they said it will tie-in w/ the current BoP series, if this is true, then i'm willing to wait, cause i
really like huntress, too bad i missed out on the huntress series, its already sold-out,

i'm trying to save up some money right now as i'm planning to buy 2 graphic novels/paperbacks of Birds of Prey i saw in the bookstore earlier,
hope its still there when i return,

The DC reboot has resurrected and messed with a lot of people's back stories. Helena Wayne is one of those.

So DC's revealed gay superhero is... Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern. In order to have this make sense, they've retconned his gay son out of existence.

It's good that a semi-important superhero is gay, I guess, but frankly, this kind of rubs me up the wrong way. There was a really well-done storyline a couple of years ago about him coming to terms with his son being gay, acknowledging that it's an hard thing for him to accept having been an adult in the 40s, but that that's nothing compared to the happiness of his child and that he'll never seek to change him. It's one of the few times I've seen such a character role handled as anything but a cartoonish psychopath in fiction at all, and they seem to have retconned it for the sake of... well, tokenism.

I realise this could be read as "I think homophobes deserve more good press than homosexuals", which isn't what I mean at all. But the story I mentioned was a really lovely character arc which, at least to me, was a lot more touching and real than a character with an established history suddenly going "welp I'm gay guys LOOK AT HOW PROGRESSIVE WE ARE (also that other gay guy yeah he doesn't exist now)"

Suffice to say the NuDCU has yet to really charm me.

Yeah, so far DCNu just reminds me why I exclusively read Marvel for years.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Okay, I just found out about them intending to announce it and thought, well, good for them, but that's a fucking terrible decision.

Especially since there's absolutely no reason why him being gay means he can't both have had kids and struggled with his son's own homosexuality; I doubt he'd be the first person to repress his gayness, end up with kids, and reacted badly when one of them also turned out gay.

I hope the ham-handed editorial approach doesn't ruin Apollo and the Midnighter (though, to be fair, it's been good so far since the reboot). No matter how bad a run of The Authority's been under any given writer (and in some cases it's been really, really bad), they've always managed to portray that relationship with sweetness and without agenda-pushing or attempting to shock for the sake of it. Even Mark Millar, who lives for mean-spirited shock for the sake of it, managed to make the one potentially distasteful episode edge just this side of too far.

I've not read much New 52 yet; I'm a trade-waiter and the trades are only starting to hit, at a point I'm in Poland and with no money, so I've only read pieces of Stormwatch (because of a particular interest in that series and how they integrate it) and the first few pages of Scott Snyder's Batman run, which was at the least entertaining.

Alan Scott.
THIS was their big critical holy fuck look how progressive we are revelation?
Especially after they have more or less retconned the JSA out of the new52niverse...

THIS is how they respond to Marvel's Northstar marriage thing? Really?

As opposed to 'Apollo and Midnighter have been sucking face in comics since the turn of the millenium and we commend Marvel for finally getting with the program and btw Batwoman is a lesbian who dresses up in black leather and beats up men.'.

Stupid.

ETA having now read this i'm less unimpressed. Especially since the writer notes he decided to do it in part because Obsidian was retconned out of existance.

well, that's quite a pain, and it shows, i saw in another forum that many readers have dropped titles even though the first wave still isn't finished around that time,
but there are still a few they are willing to continue,
surprisingly, many have dropped superman titles, now i'm not a superman follower, but i'm curious as to why they dropped the series,

just finished the current huntress series, it's good, maybe what i've gotten to like about her is her brutal approach when it comes to delivering justice,
she doesn't shy away when killing and is not afraid to deal blows to her prey,
it was only a mini-series and not actually part of the new 52, it neatly finished and was tied-in with world's finest,

The other good ones that I am reading and can vouch for are SUPERGIRL and THE FLASH. Both are excellently realized, if not quite the calibre of BATMAN. I've also heard good things about BATWOMAN. ACTION COMICS started out really good, but kind of petered out and is just sort of ho hum now.

Actually, funnily enough it was artist Bryan Hitch who wanted to change Fury's skin colour and make him black way back when ULTIMATES started years ago before the first Iron Man flick, and he was the one who chose to make him look like Samuel L Jackson. The movies decided to take the idea and run with it and hire Jackson to portray Fury since the current comics at the time portrayed him as such...so the comic did it first, and we have Hitch to thank for our current badass Sammy J version of Fury.

yah, Supergirl is good, esp since she still isn't up to her full potential, and i'm curious as to how she will develop, Flash, hmm, haven't tried him, might as well, Batwoman's art is good, but if you have read most bat-titles, she isn't that different, although excempting that she's portrayed as a lesbian? i'm going to be reading most of new 52, and then pick the ones i'll choose to continue aside from World's Finest, BoP and Supergirl, will continue on BATMAN,

The way I remember it is that Marvel wanted to use Jackson's likeness for Ultimates Fury, and he said yes on the condition that he gets to play him if/when they do a movie.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

That's a possible sidenote to Hitch's creation. Definitely.

just finished reading this titles:

Captain Atom #9 - not fan of the art, looks so '80s
Blue Beetle #9 - not sure about this one,
Catwoman #9 - getting tired of this court of owls,
DC Universe presents #9 - interested in that father-daughter/criminal-fbi agent relationship
Earth 2 #1 - the trinity got kicked in their ***, starting point of world's finest, who will be the bearer of this series?
Green lantern Corps #9 - is there a time that Hal/Kyle/Guy/John were in the same series?
Justice League #9 - Wonderwoman is more beautifully drawn here than in her series,
Legion of Superheroes #9 - not a fan of futuristic stuff,
Nightwing #9 - again, court of owls,
Red Hood & the Outlaws #9 - like that outlaw/anti-hero stuff,
Ravagers #1 - hmm, might get interesting, will see future issues,
Wonder Woman #9 - not fan of the art

if Wildstorm/DC is merged, where's the rest of WILDCATS & GEN 13, i see Fairchild, Warblade, Grifter & Voodoo have their own series,
is the girl w/ two swords, Zealot? i hope they include her as she's my favorite wildcat and Rainmaker in Gen 13,

iirc Hitch went one further and most if not all the characters are based on actors... Wasp is definitely Lucy Liu and i vaguely think Cap was supposed to be Brad Pitt and Stark was Dicaprio a la Aviator.

It would not surprise me, Hitch is known for doing that, even AUTHORITY was like that...
