Just saw somewhere that he was actually supposed to write SWAMP THING last year before the whole reboot was cobbled together and derailed that plan.

So crackpot theory.

The New EARTH 2 title.

Will be our old (pre-DCNu) DC Universe...with the DCNu ACTUALLY being the parallel universe and we just didn't know it till now.

Discuss.

Prediction.

New DC Comics logo (AKA logo for industrial solvents company, NOT a comic company apparently) will last as long as the Gap Logo fiasco from last year. 6 Days.

Seriously, It's AWFUL. Besides having no "pop" the designer is off his/her nut for basically obscuring BOTH LETTERS in the title. Oh, and how about a plain sans serif font to top it off. Yep. Knowing how much a logo of this level of branding COST the company to have the designer come up with (I would wager at LEAST $5,000). I am APPALLED.

Wow, that's terrible. Plus it evokes nothing of the logo's history.

Indeed. It seems to be a step backwards, rather than forwards.

That's... terrible. I'm not even sure where the D is supposed to be in that logo- is it the bit peeling back, or is it meant to be the shape it's taken once it's peeled back, or what?

I am consistently amazed at how often such utterly terrible branding apparently finds its way past focus groups. Like the appalling London Olympics logo or the Sci-fi rebrand into Syfy, which is a very bad word in many Slavic languages (in which it was also rebranded as such).
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Wow, that is logo FAIL. Somebody's head needs to roll for that.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Okay so here are colour versions (and variants)

It's clever, but I still think the rather blasé design that it is underneath the colour and textures makes it suckified. Though I WILL say that it's better than the plain B&W one, if marginally.

Scott, your link's broken. Delete everything after the ".jpg" and it should work.

I must agree, the color ones actually look pretty cool. Dunno if they're very effective brand logos, though.

I think the animated versions for the digital comics will work really well with the whole "peeling" aspect on a touch screen...I just dunno if the Physical copy versions are going to be anything special.

At the end of the day though, no logo will stop me from reading good DC stories, it simply makes me question upper management (Read: DiDio and Lee) company decisions.

I've been reading Joe Hill's "Locke and Key." It's quite good.

Finished "Sandman" and felt quite sad when it was over. An epic run.

I've been reading this too. Read 1-3 and doing a re read before reading #4 (trade paperback).

Anyone reading the Wheel of Time Eye of the world comics? I got the first trade along with New spring, but I'm also buying the monthly comics.

Also, anyone reading Game of Thrones comics? I got a few, but I'm waiting for the trade.

I was in Forbidden Planet in London today and took the opportunity to leaf through the so-far-released New 52 Stormwatch issues. As someone who had a big soft spot for the Wildstorm universe and Stormwatch/The Authority in particular, as they were key in getting me into comics at all, I was concerned how they'd integrate it while keeping it relevant, but I have to say, I'm very impressed. The actual premise behind it is pretty far from the original Stormwatch, but it's a logical way to keep the tone of the team intact and fit it in without there suddenly being a very public superhero team that we're supposed to accept has been in the DCU for ages and doesn't really do anything the JLA/JSA don't already do. And I was a bit unsure about the minimal amount of old characters, especially pre-Ellis ones, but the new ones do, by and large, work (I'm not 100% sold on Adam One yet, but The Eminence of Blades is a far better character than 'the best swordsman in the world' makes it sound and the Projectionist is a perfect fit for the public-relations concerns that were made big in Ellis' run on Stormwatch/Authority.

It also involves a big nod to a particular storyline in Ellis' run...

I'll defo be buying it when it hits tradeback.

The Midnighter's costume, however, is terrible.

DC is making Watchmen prequels.

I can't help but think that is a terrible idea.

I think Alan Moore said it best, something like about how morally bankrupt it is to get a bunch of good talent and have them plumb prequels out of a closed story from 1980's. It makes no real sense, and smacks of DC Comics non-ability to have anyone LIKE Alan Moore on staff to come up with original ideas. So instead the beat old ideas to death. I mean how much more info could we possibly need on each of the characters that we didn't already learn in the original text?

Yeah, no bad idea. It might sell, but even top talent won't get me to read.

While I think it's a terrible idea that is purely for the cash-grab and won't add anything to the mythos, I do think it's a bit rich of Alan Moore to complain about other people using 'his' characters. For starters, they were initially going to be based on characters DC already owned (Charlton Comics ones they had the rights to) and, once that plug was pulled, were closely modeled on them. And for seconds, Alan Moore has spent large parts of his career using other people's characters.

And, tbf, DC do have some major inventive talent going on now. Lemire and Snyder in particular are getting rave reviews, no? Lemire in particular is someone I really want to get into properly.
