So I read Final Crisis 7.

I want to punch Grant Morrison in the face.

I have no intention of reading issue 7, so could you elaborate.

Ugh... I'm so glad they keep the Green Lantern universe self contained. I hope they dont fuck that up with blackest night. They better do it like Sinestro Corp War. Everytime DC does a company wide event its garbage.

I may be late into this 21st Century living thing, but I've just discovered comic book torrents - yet another reason for me to remain glued to my computer and not leave the house, it would appear...

So I've just got hold of both Grant Morrison's Zenith and Alan Moore's Miracleman, both of which are stories I last read nearly 20 years ago that are now impossibly expensive to get hold of as originals and both of which seem to have aged surprisingly well - Zenith more so than Miracleman,I think, as it was, when written, only trying to be cool and fun as opposed to groundbreaking.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Welcome to the wonderful world of downloading out-of-print comics! Oh, how much money the companies would make if they just reprinted a few!

Also I fully endorse your downloading of Miracleman because 1. it's a cool if messed up story and 2. I hate Todd McFarlane.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

THE CONDENSED FINAL CRISIS:

Darkseid: I WIN.
Everyone: No you don't.
They fight. Darkseid loses. Everything goes back to the way it was, more or less.
DC Comics: Look! Spin-offs!!!

As you, no doubt, all know both Miracleman (or more properly Marvelman) and Zenith currently have legal stuff attached to them which means they can't be reprinted. Were either available in paper formats that didn't require the sale of one of my kidneys to afford, I would buy them like a shot; as I much prefer the experience of reading them from the physical page to that of reading them from a screen. But until then...

btw I literally own the book on the whole Miracleman affair; the book in question is by George Khoury and is very informative; especially on the douchebaggery of a certain ex-Spider Man artist/writer...

I just want to toss out again that Green Lantern is amazing right now. Blackest Night has the potential to be great, if they keep the scale down, like they did Sinestro Corps War.

I suspect this will be a massive disappointment, but I'll be buying it anyway if only for the sake of completeness

GRAWAIWIAWIAWIAWJANSIOAFHASOUHIASOHDIDOUIUOIAUSIIASOJIAOSIOASJIASOJ and GRRM fans think they have it hard. Two+ years and counting for ONE. FUCKING. ISSUE.

Still, the happy happy joy that will hopefully ensue when it finally comes out (or, for me at least, when it gets collected into a trade and that comes out) should more than make up for it.

If you look, and are willing to take time, you can find Miracleman for cheap.

Now mind you, it took 3 years for me, but I managed to get issues 1 through 22 for $5 or less, each, plus the 3D issue.

Issue 23 and 24, however, I had to shell out about $20 a pop for. Give it a month or two as well. With Watchmen coming out, Alan Moore stuff will be more expensive right now.

It would appear it's done after all... Now we just have to wait for the buggers to actually publish it...

I picked up The Nightly News today. It's pretty damn good. Not sure how his style would hold up for longer, but I'm definitely interested to read other stuff of his.

Bumpety Bump! - Mainly 'cos Apt couldn't find this thread...

Sad news about Captain Britain and MI13 getting cancelled; it was definitely one of the best ongoing series out there. Apparently it was making solid numbers everywhere else but the US but, as Diamond apparently only count the US numbers, Marvel went and pulled the plug. Hope they have enough issues left to finish the truly mental current story that has Dracula invading the UK from the moon on flying ships full of vampires... The last cliffhanger appears to have him depopulating the UK and killing most of the main cast so I, for one, am intrigued as to how Paul Cornwell is going to write himself out of that one...

The other Hickman series published under the Image banner have only been limiteds - and A Red Mass For Mars has been really slow coming out (the schedule rivals Planetary for tardiness) but they have been of equally high quality. Transhuman has some pretty ropey art but is quite ferociously clever and very funny in places, whilst Pax Romana showed what he can do when he really lets loose with an idea. He's writing Secret Warriors with Bendis over in the Marvel 'Verse at the moment, which I haven't been picking up so I've no idea of the quality of that offering.

The second Mouse Guard series has just finished and, like the first, is utterly gorgeous looking. And the new League of Extraordinary Gentlemen has, after some delay on this side of the Atlantic, got going. I'm also reading Warren Ellis' Ignition City and No Hero; the latter of which appears to be going from where Black Summer left off.

Morrison and Quitely's new Batman book will be in my hands later today, and the word on the street says it may even be as good as All Star Superman. Which is high praise indeed, as that's possibly the best thing published, in the superhero genre, in the last 20 years. I'm also reading the 2nd Seaguy mini, which I will also be purchasing later today, and which appears to be easily as freaky as the first.

Manga wise I'm going with The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service which is deliciously funny and occasionally very creepy.

From the thread I made. I think the problem may have been that I searched for "comic" and not "comics".

I searched but couldn't locate the old thread.

Anyway, I've finally found a reliable "alternative" means of getting my hands on comic books that doesn't involve selling my body for science or exchanging sexual favors in the back of smelly cars. Which means that I'll soon have actual up to date opinions of value to share in comic book discussions now.

So far I've gotten my hands on

Marvel:
Deadpool and Cable 1-50
The Complete World War Hulk
The Complete Civil War
The complete Infinity Gauntlet
Uncanny X-men 1-504
Uncanny X-men Annual 1-25

DC:

The Complete Final Crisis
The Complete Zero Hour

I'm looking into finding:

The complete Secret Invasion (Marvel)
52 (DC)
Planet Hulk (Marvel)
World War Hulk Aftersmash(Marvel)
Redhulk(Marvel)
Batman RIP(DC)
The old Death of Superman comics with Doomsday and co (DC)
X-force(Marvel)
Collections of Fantastic 4, Avengers and Spiderman comics(Marvel)

I'm wondering if any can recommend anything else to look into?

I haven't collected comic books or done any real looking into the stuff since before 2000 so there's a lot of stuff out there that I'm just now discovering.

Of the stuff I've collected I've just finished World War Hulk, which was fucking awesome (except for part of the ending), and have just begun reading Cable and Deadpool which is just about the most fun I've had reading comic books I can remember.

For the record I have already read a few Immortal Iron Fist issues, since one of my friends are collecting them. They're okay, but Iron Fist was never really my taste. I enjoyed seeing him getting his ass handed to him in World War Hulk though.

Well some of those I've not read... But for the most part I'd agree.

All Star Superman really needs to be on that list. And Alan Moore's Top Ten, which is extraordinary. I'd probably add Warren Ellis' Global Frequency and Planetary too, and the latter part of his run on Stormwatch Jonathan Hickman's Image stuff would go on there as well. And I also quite like Mark Millar's work on Ultimate Fantastic Four and Mike Carey's.
