His Hulk novelization, The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast (that presumably ties in with some comics I have yet to read), was also a work of genius. Blew me away. Generally comic book and other media tie-in fiction are very mediocre, but this was a stellar work of fiction in its own right. I've never read another comic book novelization that impressed me as much, except perhaps Roger Stern's The Death and Life of Superman.

i've been warned that Marvel hasn't loaded his entire HULK run into the Meth yet, but whenever they do i'm so there.

Part of the beauty of the App is the ability to read entire runs of comics i wouldn't have bothered with when i had to pay for each issue (and wait in between) but can gleefully read as fast or slow as i want now.
Hulk was never a character i cared about in my floppy-reading days unless he was being clawed up by Wolverine or something, but now after devouring a PAD mutant run, i want to read everything he's ever written.

This is Patrick Rothfuss' reaction to Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples SAGA.

This comic is so good it's starting to piss me off.

Dear Mr. Vaughan,

You should not be able to make me cry five times in the same fucking comic. Seriously. Twice in two pages? This will not do. It is neither seemly nor fair.

Please knock that shit off.

Fondly yours,

pat

P.S. Please don't knock it off.

And I chuckled. Because yes, it IS this good.

I read the first 15 pages of SAGA. It didn't grip me that much.

I'm not a fan of Y: The Last Man, despite having read a friend's copies, and although I have all of Ex Machina in tpb, I thought it wasn't that great. Fun at moments, but not transcendental like the true greats.

The underlying thing here is probably that I'm not a Brian K. Vaughan fan.

On the other hand, Mike Carey has me going through Unwritten pretty quickly and with intense focus.

15 pages doesn't really give Saga the benefit of the doubt...as it's like reading one chapter of a book. Maybe give it a few issues? It really just is so good...and Staples art is amazing!

Also Amph, try Hickman's EAST OF WEST....post apocalyptic insanity and goodness.

Just read through the entirety of the "Death of the Family" storyline in the Batman comics.

I learned about it when I saw this gif:

And I felt I needed to read what ever fucked up thing Joker was getting up to, considering the title of this series is based on the orinal "A death in the family" story where the first Robin died.

I wasn't expecting much from HAWKEYE, but Faction and co are all evil genii and consequently, the next thing i know it's 3am and i've read 12 issues at one sitting.

It's stupid great stuff. Funny, mostly street level but grounded in the wider Marvel Universe without losing the basic point that despite going into battle with Thor and Wolverine, he's a normal human with a bow and arrows who needs an apartment and a life and occasionally a day off and maybe sex once in a while. Throw in the best sidekick since Damian and a pizza loving canine and this book is pure comic goodness on a very human yet still superhero level.

AVENGERS/INVADERS.
Wow, that was disappointing. Even Alex Ross' art couldn't save this story. It was trite, by the numbers, and boring. I've read worse, but this should have been an event on par with AVENGERS FOREVER or KINGDOM COME. Instead... meh. Predictable villains doing predictable things, rank standard time travel tropes, characters only barely in character at times... so much weak.

Then i read more HAWKEYE and felt better.

Anyone read Saga by Brian K. Voughan? I picked up the first set for 1.99. I was wondering what you all though of the series?

You are in for a SERIOUS treat. I've been collecting it in floppy issues since it began (we are up to issue #19 now). I adore the series, and it is easily my favourite comic read. It's brilliant, well written, beautifully drawn and basically a cornucopia or excellent characters, totally unique setting, emotions, action, family...like I could go on and on.

I also take credit for getting Abyss to check it out (even though he wanted to wait for all the trades) and he likes it too.

The other two series I'm currently enjoying are EAST OF WEST by Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta (post apocalyptic), and THE WAKE by Scott Snyder & Sean Murphy (kind of a future story where the ocean is filled with bloodthirsty merpeople). Both worth a look!

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
