ALEXISONFIRE - Boiled Frogs

Heard Dallas Green do a great solo acoustic version of this song at the Juno Awards "Songwriters Circle" concert and had to check out the original.

More like a fucking retarded, mindless, neanderthal meathead. He's also fucking talentless.

Albums I've been spinning lately:

Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Slayer - Seasons in the Abys
Slayer - Haunting the Chapel EP

I'm sorry, but I don't know how you can sit there with a straight face and say Zakk Wylde is talentless. You are obviously cold and dead inside. Nice album list though.

I'm sorry but they are nothing special. You put them next to the almighty Mastodon, and Crack the Skye is one of my all time favourite albums ever, and compared to that, Slayer are just... well, boring!

Ummmm do you realize that Slayer is a major influence on Mastodon? Do you also realize that there would be no Mastodon without Slayer? Know your history, please.

To say that Slayer is not special is just plain false. I can understand that you don't like them, or not as much as Mastodon -- that's fine and completely understandable. Taste is subjective blah blah blah. But Slayer is an extremely important band who's influence will most certainly outlast Mastodon's (and I fucking love Mastodon). Show some respect, please.

If you were to ask the guys in Mastodon who is better Mastodon or Slayer they would all say Slayer without hesitating for a single second.

Having said all that, their recent albums aren't that great it's true but everything up to Seasons in the Abyss is fucking essential. The boys in Mastodon would most certainly agree.

No Slayer = No mastodon. Plain and simple.

It's like Metallica, are they fucking whore mongering dipshit rockstars who have lost sight of what's important? Absolutely but that doesn't change the fact that Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets are fucking spectacular albums that are extremely important and essential.

ANYWAYS, back to Crack The Skye, have you gotten the chance to see them play that album live? Fuckin' amazing. Blew my mind.

Yup seen them live, and they played Crack the Skye from start to finish. Astounding.

And I know what you mean about Slayer being hugely influential in the metal scene etc. etc. I know the History, having spent more time during uni reading books about that then I did reading books about anything vaguely related to my degree. The History of Metal would be my choice of subject if I were to go on Mastermind, and I have rarely met someone else who is as geeky about it as I am.

Having said all that, despite their obvious huge influence I still fail to see why they have exerted such an influence on the scene. They were never the most talented or even the fastest (as Napalm Death could probably claim that one). So big whoop for them for becoming one of the biggest pop bands in metal, but I don't feel like I need to accord them more respect than a band like Mastodon who (whilst I acknowledge your point of No Slayer = No Mastodon) have showed more progressive creativity in their last album than I feel Slayer did in most of their back catalogue.

I also agree about SellOutica.

Yup. I would also pick Slayer over just about every single song that is on in my friends cars every day (we car share and out of the four of us, I am the only one who doesn't stick some trashy local radio station and listen to the same songs repeated a million times over...)
