Aptorians are silly

I don't get the Aptorian demon. I can think of no benefit for a creature to have only one foreleg. Or only one eye, for that matter. Granted, we don't know what conditions exist in Apt's home realm, but I can't think of any that would make it helpful to only have three limbs.
This is of course assuming that demons gradually evolve, as animals do in our realm, which may not be true. maybe someone/thing/god simply created them that way, but why?
It almost seems like SE was trying to think of a way to make this demon unique from others, and thought "I know, I'll give it one leg in front!" It feels liked a tacked on afterthought.
Am i missing something?

Aptorians are NOT silly!
But this is a topic without an easy answer, who knows what SE based this creation on. Like you say it's a demon and it's from a place different from earth.
I don't remember the description of Apt's legs but I imagined it as having two strong hindlegs and the front one was just ment for support and could be used for other tasks.

Apt, I of course did not mean to offend. I just try to imagine one of these things running and can no longer think of them as ferocious.

I've wondered this myself, but if it was just in general a really tough demon that could explain the *evolution* theory, if it was toughter then everything else it could thrive.
I suspect it might have something to do with speed, using it's front limb to move itself around quickly with better mobility then two limbs.

But how would that work? An animal that runs on all fours would be more mobile and agile than one that runs on all threes. Think in terms of ATVs, a three wheeler is much easier to tip over than a four wheeler. NOt an exact comparison, but oh well.

They remind me of Scrabs from that old game, Abe's Odyssey. Except way cooler. or sillier!
delicious scrabcakes.

I never played it. Was Scrabs 3 legged like Apt? Interesting that others have had the same idea. Maybe it makes more sense than I thought.

@ Miscellaneous: i always thought of them like the Hydra Monster in the Disney Hercules movie, only with 3 legs....and one eye, and more needle like teeth.
but i think we can all agree that the Aptorian demon was created to breed a creepy army of one eyed knife weilding children whos sole purpose is to protect the

Nope, the Aptorians are a race of creatures. Ammanas calls Apt a concubine to the Aptorian ruler. She wasn't specially created for the purpose you mention.

it would be cool to see her with a bigger part however

I was very suprised when HUME reminded me that Apt was a demon matron... I would have rethought my forum name if I had thought to remember her sex... me being a male humanoid
Don't worry IHP she shows up again.

I forgot about that too. well, since Apt is just short for Aptorian, one could call any aptorian Apt. So if anyone gives you a hard time for having a girly demon name, you could always just say you're named after a different, very butch male Aptorian.

I'm not suggesting in terms of running, I'm thinking more close in movement and dodging.
Btw great call on the Scarb from Abe's Odessey, now that you mention it they are a lot like them.

It just seems like they would tip over too easy. Also, in a fight, any time they wanted to strike wit htheir front leg, thet would have to rear up and expose themselves. (Er, wait a minute, that sounds wrong.)
Luxury Yacht, laughing at the idea of the Aptorian, exposing itself.

We don't know enough about the Aptorians to know how they would expose themselves. Though I suspect that the Apt's have evolved in such a way that such a simple thing wouldn't cause them to tip.
I believe the forearm can lash outwards without topping over the Apt based on some of the fighting Apt (singular) has been engaged in.

Clearly this arrangement works well for Apt. She can kick some major tail. It just seems a little contrived to me. Not really a big deal, doesn't detract from the story at all. I have a tendency to nitpick, and since I like the series so much, the minor details are all I can find to talk smack about.

True that but yeah, I think it's good that Erkison really went out and brought in some obscure *freak* of evolution from another realm and then

Why is everyone here assuming that SE's demons are the sole product of evolutionary processes?
They are DEMONS in a FANTASY world filled with MAGIC.
I think this discussion is a bit of a waste of time.

A: yes pointless waist of time... just like every other discussion about Iccy, shadows and what not, in every other book thread.
B: The reason to why we are discussing Apt's physical provess is that just like every other thing in SE's universe, there always seems to be a logical pattern in his creatures. Tusks, extra limbs (fewer in Apts case), lungs, what ever. SE's is an educated thorough person so it is logical to take a straightforward approach to his creations.
C: yes, utter waist of time, Apt is not silly, she is wonderful and precious. Praise her existence.
