Scattered through the forums, there have been several discussions of how to pronounce different words. So, I thought there should be one thread where any pronunciation issues can be discussed. Not that I have any in mind at the moment, but I bet someone does.

I always think those discussions are interesting. because dometimes you look at how someone else pronounces something and it really boggles the mind that they could get such a different take on how to say somthing. If no one has anything to post here, our faithful administrators can delete this thread with my blessing.

Me-ain-ass ?
Mean-ass ? :)

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

I agree with Abyss about Ah-day-fon and Leth-ah...

Meh-ah-nass, huh? How do you pronounce meh?

Further thought also turns over the following possibilities:

May-an-ass ?
May-nass ?

Personally, I would be inclined to say Meen-ass (for lack of an e with a bar on top I used ee).

I've just realised what's going on here! Meen-ass = Mean Ass! I have found the Warren used by the mules of darkness!

Even though I know it's completely incorrect, my brain reads this word Meh-Nay-ass. I don't know why, I think I've got some wires crossed or something. I think it's probably meant to be Mee-an-ass though, or more likely mey-an-ass.

My brain is always at that too, it's convinced it's Draginpur, scandabari, etc.

Stupid brain!

This one has always seemed obvious to me. Which means many other people are probably going to disagree with me!

It's Ay-du-fon (As is Hay-duh-gon with the appropriate changes. Which is, of course, also a problem with these kinds of threads, since I can't type phonetic. So perhaps someone needs to establish a standard set of spellings to handle the various sounds, especially the vowels?)

I recognize Meanas by sight, but have never even tried to pronounce it.

And it's Le-ther, like leather but shift the emphasis more to the second syllable.

Dridge (like "bridge" with a d) - nah

Yi (as in the start of "Yiddish") - gah - tan

Fork'rul Assail

Does anyone else pronounce like Fork - Rul, Assail (as in when you assault something?)
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

I'm undecided between Drij-na and Dri-na (The 'ij' bit of Drij sounds like bridge without the d sound in it)

For Y'Ghatan, it is a corruption of Jhag Odhan, so I pronounce it Yag-at-an.

On that note, what to people prefer for Jaghut - Jag-oot or Jag-ut?

Sir Thursday

EDIT: Spelt Jaghut wrong :)

*now corrected*

Jaghut

Jag-hut

i.e. the way it is spelled. Simple.

Actually, I don't say it as Jag-Hut, but Jag-Ut - like Hut, but without the H. Alternativley with H, but long U, so it doesn't sound like hut. Somehow, hut didn't seem so impressive on me...

@Dolorous: I think it is more natural to leave the h silent, because having two consonant sounds together is harder to say quickly...

Ye-gatan
Jag-hut, with the h vocalized

THis is fun. Even when I know I'm wrong about a word, I can't make myself stop the way I've always said it.

I say it E-Ghatan.
I pronounce the ghut in Jaghut as something in-between 'gut' and 'goot'.
