I think the unsatisfactory conclusion to Pearl and Lostara's relationship deserves a mention.

They sparred and fought and loved each other without ever quite lowering their guards for long enough to fullfil the relationship, and in the end Lostara has to take Pearl's life.

(Thread necro, I know, but this was such a good thread)

*sniffy sniff*

Was that the death at the end of RG that Kallor was talking about? Because there are a couple options and I'm really curious.

Definitely the end of MoI for me. Just the whole thing. Deaths later in the series, particularly after RG, leave me going, "Eh, they'll be back."

Two stand-out _emotional_ moments in the series so far:

Itkovian and the T'lan Imass
Tavore vs. Felisin
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

Agreed. Those 2 and the end of the Chain of Dogs are IMO the most emotional.
In fact Tavore is a very tragic persona, and I'm starting to like her a lot.
Whiskeyjack's death also deserves a mention. I felt so sad for Korlat.

And it was such a small section, but when Spite and Toc the Younger were talking about there being nothing for T'lan Imass when they die. And she asks why it bothers him. "Because he's my friend". And Tool's head snaps around....and then later, when Tool finds Toc Anaster.....

OK, so overall I agree with the majority of posts in here (except for anything from MT; just didn't care about much beyond Bugg, Tehol and ... god, the undead assassin and all her hijinks in that book, but hey, if it worked for you, good deal--the Tavore/Felisin moment worked for me and i don't even like Felisin, so it's cool that those moments at least work for a good portion of people), but I'm currently reading through the whole siege of Y'Gathan (sp?) in tBH, and one thing that REALLY got to me and seemed to come out of the blue is, I believe, Pella's death (there are SO MANY names I might have it wrong), where he's hit in the face with an arrow & falls and remembers being a child and skinning his knee, his mom has to use their saved up moving money on a healer, and his last thoughts are 'i'm sorry, mama, i skinned my knees.' /shudder/ man, that just REALLY got to me. And pretty much everything from there on out (anyone notice that chapter is fully 1/10 of the entire book?) is difficult. Anyway, this is probably one of those moments that will fade for me, like it has for everyone else, so I thought I'd mention it while it's still fresh in my mind.

I just finished the part where Captain Sort and Sinn find Bottle. After reading intensely this past hour, I decided to come up for air and check out the boards, found this thread.
There are so many emotional moments, and the siege of Y'Ghatan is one of the best. From the breach in the wall, to Truth's sacrifice, from Fid and Corab bringing up the rear to the crawl under the city - an incredible emotional ride for words strung out on a page. I want to shout out to the world - pick up these books - they are a masterpiece. Thank goodness for the internet where I can voice my fanaticism while still reeling from the images Erikson's left in my mind.
"Desire for goodness, Mister Reese, leads to earnestness. Earnestness, in turn, leads to sanctimonious self-righteousness, which breeds intolerance, upon which harsh judgment quickly follows, yielding dire punishment, inflicting general terror and paranoia, eventually culminating in revolt, leading to chaos, then dissolution, and thus, the end of civilisation."
