One thing you have to take into consideration with Rake in any of these X vs Y imaginary fights is that he has Dragnipur. A mere scratch and you are toast.

Imagine two sword of fighters that are of exact equal skill.
One has dragnipur one has a normal sword.
The one with Dragnipur will win.

So for anyone to beat Rake while he has that sword they not only have to be better than him they have to be a whole hell of lot better than him. They would need to literally own him for the whole swordfight and make it quick.

Actually I am not that sure Dragnipur needs just a scratch. The demon lord (Galayn) needed a lot more (impaled) and the only one who had a wound that did not seem fatal was one of the Hounds. Maybe scratching works only on "weak" beings.

It's not clear. The Galayn Lord was physically sucked into the sword - he disappeared. But the bodies of the Hounds remained on the plain for Paran to touch. Hard to draw conclusions from these two examples, and they are the only ones we have.

The hounds are not weak creatures, so your argument is flawed.

We still don't know much about Dragnipur besides the fighting that took place in GotM. As we know not all of GotM can be relied on.

Maybe it has to be a killing blow, it does sound too easy if Rake just needed to nick the wrist or a front leg of another sword fighter to trap their soul. Also it seems that the entire demon disapperead when Rake impaled it but the hounds bodies remained.

I just want that weapon broken all ready, it annoys me. I want to se what happens if Draconus and the rest of all those creatures are let loose... All though they'll probably just be sucked up by an Azath or something similar disappointing.

Edit: Doloures was quicker.

We have a third example in MoI, p. 808, when Rake kills three of the Women of the Dead Seed. When he kills them he lobs of heads and strikes down their bodies. Their bodies are not described as going into Dragnipur.

Good catch on the Women of the Dead Seed, I'd forgotten about that.

perhaps its because of the nature of the galayn lord.... the otehrs htat was killed was based on this plane while the galayan lord isn;t... does anyone remember what happen to the demon that was released by qb and got kebabed by rake ?

Two quotes coming up:

p. 427 in GotM:
In the centre of the rooftop lay a large patch of ash and bone that crackled faintly and cast out the occasional hissing spark.

p. 428:
Rake: "It had the smell of empire about it," Rake muttered, his gaze on the smouldering patch that had begun to eat it's way into the roof.

So Pearl, the Korvalahrai, didn't disappear either and neither did the Hounhds of shadow, which if you think about it are a type of demon aswell.

So it's only the Galain lord(sp?) we hear disappear. There could be something about the Galain Lords nature, where it comes from, maybe it doesn't have a soul. Or it is just another GotM'ism... My money is on the last one.

The demon released by QB, Pearl, wasn't necessarily killed by Dragnipur. I can't remember any references to Rake sheathing the sword afterwards, and the residue of its death suggests it was destroyed by magic only.

I'm sure he killed Pearl.

On p. 424, when Quick summons the demon it says to him:
"Ben Adephon Delat," Pearl said plaintively, "see the last who comes. You send me to my death." and a few lines below "Ben Adephon Delat, do you pity me?" to which Quick replies, "yes"
I think this means that Pearl "earned dragnpur" :)

Even though we now know how powerful the "normal" andii are I think it was implied, when Quick thinks that a Korvalahrai can destroy a city the size of Darujistan, that Rake would have to use the sword... or unleash Kurald Galain and wiping out a couple of city blocks.

The next line to this quote:

Quote

p. 427 in GotM:
In the centre of the rooftop lay a large patch of ash and bone that crackled faintly and cast out the occasional hissing spark

is - Anomander Rake slammed his sword into its sheath. "I sent twelve of you...] I think this implies that Dragnipur was used.

i think that answered the question... any beings that were summoned to this plane when kebebed by dragnny doesn't leave a body behind...

I think it's still unclear. Pearl's remains did not disappear, the korvalahrai's material was burning through the rooftop if you read my quote again. I think the Galain Lords disappearence was a GotM'ism.

But again, the galain lord was very humanoid, while the Korvalahrai seemed more etheral, materializing out of smoke. Like it's been said we just don't know enough about the sword and what hapens to demons when they die on Wu.

That's why I used the quotation marks on "weak". Compared to the Galayn Lord, all the other victims were far less powerful. I think the part about the Korvalahrai being able to destroy a city is either a gotm-ism or he means an empty city without its inhabitants
