R. Scott Bakker is signing copies of The Thousandfold Thought at London's Forbidden Planet on Thursday 20 July, from around 6pm. I have decided not to delay the inevitable anymore and will leap on board The Darkness That Comes Before once I've finished my current Flashman book. Provided I get into the series (and from what I've read, it seems a done deal I will), I was thinking of heading along to this signing. It's on my day off, just after payday, and I daresay some others may be considering attending. Apparently there hasn't been too much interest as of yet according to a guy over on the SFX Forum who called them up, so it could be a good opportunity to chat to the author in a relatively quiet environment.

Any other fans interested in attending?

I'm interested! To bad I live in Australia.

Damn you're lucky. No one ever comes to my end of Australia (the little known western end.)

I don't know, I have some friends who are moving to Perth to study at uni there :)

While I've liked what I've read so far (just starting The Warrior Prophet), I'm not sure if I will be taking the journey down to London without an ulterior motive...

Beer.

Depending on how many people we get going, we may extend an invitation to Bakker himself to join us for a few pints before the signing, depending on his schedule. Jay Tomio, who frequents these and other boards, might be coming across for the signing and he's interviewed Bakker a few times. We'll see how it goes.

I might go along. I've read the first one, but haven't gotten around to buying the second and third yet. I do intend to though so it might be a good opportunity. Everytime I go into Forbidden Planet I look at it, and think "next time...". :)

Cool if you can make it Jay. I'm not receiving much support on this one aside from a couple of guys from the SFX board (surprisingly, given Bakker's many supporters here and on Westeros), but it would be good to get a posse going. Even better if we could ask Bakker to meet up for a beer or two ahead of time, depending on his schedule.

Can someone ask Bakker who he hates more, his characters or his readers? It's hard to say, reading the books.

I would really love to go but I have an exam the day before and won't be able to make it which sucks completely. Would really love to go though.

Discussions on attending seemed to be ranging across several boards, so I decided to put up a 'roll-call' on Westeros in this thread.

I'm going to call Forbidden Planet later in the week, but at the moment it looks like you have to purchase a copy of The Thousandfold Thought from the store if you want to attend the signing, which may be redundant for some (although you may be able to get away with just repurchasing one of the earlier paperbacks).

It's broken :D

We really have to buy a copy to go to the signing? That really REALLY sucks. I just bough Thousandfold Thought in Waterstones yesterday, and I can't take it back because it was part of their 3 for 2 deal on all sci-fi and fantasy. Damn it:(

I'm going to ring them tomorrow (order line is open on Sundays 12-6pm) or Monday to confirm. You may just be able to turn up, or perhaps could just get away with picking up a copy of TDTCB instead (cheaper, and you can pass it on to a friend). Their website isn't very clear on the matter at all.

The Westeros link does work, normally, but the whole board is down at the moment whilst Ran flushes out a spyware bug that's been playing havoc for the last few weeks.

Damn, busy day so I didn't get to ring them. Will definitely 100% do it tomorrow.

No word from Jay if he's coming yet. Once I find out the details I'll make another post here and on SFX to see if/how people want to meet up beforehand.

There were maybe four people at the signing, including the two of us - Scott wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the queue;)
