Shadowthrone's master plan can be reduced to an overly complicated game of Musical Chairs.
First Throne

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I'm pretty sure that ST sat on the Throne of Shadow...how else would he have power over the HoS? Also, Apsalar uses Emurlahn primarily, not Meanas. I doubt ST intends to hold the throne forever though; he'll probably be fine with handing it over to Kettle, especially once he finds out that she's the daughter of his Knight.

What makes you say that, as opposed to M/R?

Good question. It does seem that taking over M/R was just a step for Kel/Dan, not the end result.

I would almost agree with this, but have to wonder whether Trull's link is more to Elder shadow KE, not human aspected M/R. Sure, he ascended into a position in HHS, but that reflects an aligment of power, not necessarily an firm alliance with ST/Cot. (obviously he had an alliance with them in defending the First Throne, but i don't see him just taking orders from ST).
- Abyss, rah rah Trull!

I thought that too for instance... the city sky-bridge that she crossed.. it was in Emurlahn.. the throne that Telorast and Curdle could sense... it was the throne of Rhulad..

Yes, I agree with that Abyss... his aspect is Emurlahn... he is Tiste Edur after all.. the difference between himself and ST, who was human and therefore uses Meanas. Just a different path

During the BH we get the impression that ST is working on "the good guys side" countering the CG and the Edurs plans. But what makes you think that he'll just hand over a vast resource of power.
My impression of ST is that he's a semi-evil mastermind. Think about him killing of around 400 soldiers and civilians to cover up one players tracks. ST and maybe Cotillions ultimate plan seems to be able to tame the Azaths power and litteraly gaining the power of a hundred gods.
He's a brilliant mage that rose from innkeeper, to emperor, to commander of the T'lan Imass to god of shadow. I doubt he'll relinquish his only remaining source of power he has left (that we know of) If he can get away with it he'd probably just sick his hounds on kettle... although she might just kill them all of course
yes I know that ST might see the the purpose of healing Kurald Emularn, but I'm sure he would prefer to be the one sitting on the throne of that healed realm

I'm not so sure that he can sit on it - and live
It may be, as with the Hounds, that he has mastery over it's powers to a certain extent, but beyond that one has to possess Edur blood... hence Kettle.

... and then ST invented the Blood-transfusion. Necessity is the mother of invention

err st has not yet sat on teh throne of shadow...
otehrwise the edur would feel the claim echoing through teh warrens like when toggand fandarey did
note: you don;t actually have to plant your butt on it.. oyu jsut have to claim the throne as yours and all the power/responsibilities/**** comes along with it until you either relinquish it or die or get kicked out..
the edur know that the throne is yet unclaimed and is working on claiming it.. st has command over hte hos as they are linked in some ways.. but if st has really sat on the throne of shadow, then the edur will have no way of countermanding st order to eat the edur.. mt has shown that the throne of shadow is still unclaimed..
besides power draw power.. otherwise why would st and dancer gave up the malaz throne before seeking the one he is sitting on.. if he sits on too many, the ascendends and gods will come and kick his ass..
also once a throne is claimed/sat on.. almost all deck readers will have felt it and upgrade their decks.. as far as we know, the throne of shadow/high house shadow/high king of shadow hasn;t come into play yet

I agree with fan_83...I don't think ST's on the KE Throne. As for the links to KE, isn't it said somewhere that Shadow Keep merely exists within a fragment of KE...that the Meanas Throne is merely a 'guardhouse' leading to the fragment of KE sustaining it?
