The final resurrection

Ok folks, I am interested by Erikson's comment about a final resurrection.
Vaiski asked about it practically two years ago, but I couldn't find any more threads about it.

So, here:
what does everyone think Erikson meant by his comment

Quote

Will there be any more resurrections? Only one, and it's what all the others are leading to.

Something to do with the Jade giants? Scabby? The Eres people? Or does he perhaps mean something more like a 'resurrection' of the older magic of holds?
I'm completely clueless on this one, and nothing that comes to mind springs out at me as being very likely.

Here's the entire quote:

Quote

The ascendant Whiskeyjack? All rightie, this ties in with concerns I've seen expressed about resurrections in the novels. Curious. Paran is the only character truly resurrected, because in his re-animation he is essentially the same person he was before. Maybe Duiker, too. Tattersail was reborn, as was Nightchill, but Silverfox is a very different creature. Baudin as a servant of Hood is perforce very dead, and will remain so. The Bridgeburners who make a re-appearance in HoC are ghosts. Ascended, yes, resurrected, no. Coltaine is a month old and his mother still has to hold him out when he pees. No fast return there. Felisin is gone. Toc's just inhabiting a different body. Will there be any more resurrections? Only one, and it's what all the others are leading to.

Surely it has to be the Crippled God?

He's not dead. If you look at Erikson's quote, he was very literal about resurrection meaning resurrection, not a 'rebirth" or a "renewal" or a comeuppance in the world. Literally a resurrection. Was once dead, now is alive.

Didn't Heboric sorta ressurect in Bonehunters so that he could be Shield Anvil for all the souls in the Jade Giant? I always assumed that that's what the dead man in front of the Tiger of Summer on the card in the Deck of Dragons under House of War that represented Treach represented. Just as Treach had to die in order to ascend into Godhood, so did Heboric in order to be ressurected to perform his ultimate task, his final calling so to speak. Or am I just imagining things?

Jade Giants seem most likely - but it would mean millions of people. It would be really spectacular event, but things could get rather crowded.

This quote is from before MT came out, so he could have meant Rhulad.

Tiam seems likely, what with Cotillion's comment that the dragons are at the heart of the conflict... and i figure he included the draconean soletaken in that statement.

Mother Dark's not dead, tho i suppose she could yet die and ressurect.

- Abyss, wonders whether Tiam died in an unfortunate orgy incident. The big skank.

Ok, I'll weigh in here again. I think Blind might be right. If we are talking a literal resurrection, Rhulad fits the bill. He died. He stayed dead for days. He suddenly came screaming back to life. And Rhulad is directly related to the CG, who appears to be the main arc of this series.
I haven't read a whole lot of reasoning behind people's ideas. But there is mine for Rhulad. Any takers?

How do all the other resurrections (which consist entirely of Duiker and Paran) lead to Rhulad's? Because that's what SE said, that all the others are leading up to that final resurrection.

Quote

Father Macki: You put him on a cross, and then wait for him to get a resurrection.

Kyle: Hey, that's exactly what my dad needs! We'll do it!

I'd say Tiam.

Rhulad is not the same after getting resurrected; He just gets madder each time.

I am thinking its going to Krul. I know his not dead, but he did go back to chaos and is only able to live in Kruppes mind. He was the one who aspected the Dragons to the holds/warrens. It is his blood that is tainted and remember, he actually knows more than anyone about the CG. HIs going to comeback, and kick some CG a**

Imnsho, Duiker isn't a true resurrection. Sure, he was hideously crucified and so on, but his soul went into Baruk's magic bottle instead of on to Hood's coffee shop in the sky.

- Abyss, may be resurrected most mornings by a good espresso.

I think Rhulad fits the bill. Pre-Rhulad author says there will only be one more resurrection, then Rhulad is resurrected. Bam!

Now Paran leading up to him...that's a bit harder, but maybe Paran can be resurrected as Master of the Deck because Rhulad is about to upset it...

I recant of such thinkings! I am now convinced the resurrection shall be a future one, of some as yet unknown character.

I doubt that one resurrection would happen in book 5, with 5 more to go... :(

And Rhulad gets more recycled than resurrected....

Hmmm... yep, both good points BridgeBurner and PanionDude. I wondered why Erikson would 'work up' to a ressurection half-way throught the series. I really don't know who else it could be or why...
Could there be some sort of connection between the Azath houses and the eleint that contains a resurrection?

Abyss, the defenition of death in Malaz world isn't to go to Hood's gate. It just means for the body to stop functioning, since the brain isn't working anymore. So many deaths didn't make it to Hood. But what Duiker went through was certainly death.

It's funny, because Steven Erikson never took into account that if the brain isn't exposed to oxygen for more than five minutes, cells are destroyed rapidly. Paran and Rhulad should both be vegetables.

Perhaps the being to be resurrected isn't even dead yet? (Or did somebody say that already?)

I hope it's not Rhulad (spl) because that would be a bit of an anti climax.
(Rhulad, Rhulad...that's a cake isn' it??)
'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that frisbee getting bigger?" ... and then it hits me.
