As for the Imperial Warren, what seems to have happened is that it (Kaschan) lay dormant after the extinction of the KCCM, and K'rul somehow folded the surface of Jacuruku into this empty warren, Kaschan, he didn't create a whole new warren for that purpose.

...

Also, is Kaschan the correct term for the KCCM racial warren? It's the Edur term, and is just a distortion of "K'Chain", whereas other racial warrens do not share names with their races. Given the generally dodgy history of the Edur, and other examples of misremembered names (the Teblor and the Krussail), maybe Kaschan is better known by another name (apart from "the Imperial Warren")?

I had thought that Kaschan was the Warren destroyed at Morn. It's the only Warren we know of that doesn't exist anymore, and as far as we know, the KCNR don't have mages.

As far as naming goes, we have Tellann = T'lan, Omtose as an ancient language, and Kurald Liosan = Tiste Liosan. So Kaschan is a definite possibility for the KCCM Warren.

Another possible link might be: Chaos = Magic and Tech = Order, especially with Shadowthrone's plan to annul the power of the gods.

No, Kaschan still exists, if we can really on Binadas and Fear in MT. They say it's practicioners (the KCCM) are dead, but that the warren itself is not.

"There is light from the Stone Bowl," Fear said. "An Elder Warren. Kaschan."

"That warren is dead," Trull said. "Destroyed by Father Shadow's own hand."

"Its children are dead, brother, but the sorcery lingers..."

MT mmpb p 138

I take that to mean the warren still exists - as the Imperial Warren...

Doesn't the KCNR tech use Kaschan to operate? I thought that was how they kept their sky keeps in the air...

Thanks, DM.

Vox, I think Icarium describes it as a different sort of magic, IE the magic of technology, which would seem like magic to the primitive residents of Wu. Icarium's machines are supposed to be the same as the KCRN machines, and Icarium certainly can't use Kaschan (OMG Icarium's mom was KCNR!!!!).

I always opposed to the idea of KC interbreeding (they breed like bees with a matron and eggs and stuff) but it sounds reasonable now.

Well, do the Nah'ruk have the same Matron-drone structure as the KCCM? And even if they do, who's to say that Gothos didn't get it on with a Matron?

Would you have sex with a fat dinosaur?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Eres are time travellers...or at least the one that we see is. The opposite of time is space...but I don't think any of the races can be said to be space-manipulators. Maybe KCCM/NR, whose aspect is gravity?

Um, this is physically incorrect. Space and time are interconnected, commonly called spacetime, in fact. And gravity affects time just as much as space. Its called Relativity.

Mind you, I'm not saying Erikson would double-check the validity of his fantasy world against reality or anything...

That was a joke. Mammals and reptiles can't interbreed. That'd be like Mogora having a child with Pust's mule.

With the E'res and spacetime, this isn't the first time that beings can see what may happen, remember the birth of Silverfox.

The Imass warren seems to hold time still as does the Jaghut warren, should whatever forces that work within the E'res be different?

The E'res would also seem to be prescient as she knows where people need to be to counter whatever is going to happen, unless her raw (Hold like) powers are being guided by something else.

@Potsherds:

I realise that here space and time are connected (I just had my Physics exam on relativity this morning, talk about perfect timing) but as you say, not necessarily in Wu. But if one were to assume that the same laws apply, and attempt to find an opposite to time, then space is what springs to mind, even if the two aren't exactly in opposition per se. I say gravity only as a wild guess (it is the only thing that I have seen in the series that comes close), but I guess it is just the manifestation of the spacetime warping properties of mass. In that case, perhaps one could say that mass is opposed to time?

That's why he's sitting on all the Thrones. It mentions that the abilities of the gods would be severely curtailed, during the discussion on it in HoC. It might also have been mentioned in the discussion between Onrack and Cotillion in TBH.
