Hmmm, I believe this is way too much, especially since Goodkind's fans will jump on this one as soon as it hits the shelves. . .

Now that Martin has surpassed Goodkind and has given Jordan a serious run for his money, it will be interesting to see how well PHANTOM does on the charts. CHAINFIRE debuted at number 3 on the NYT list last year, and remained on the list for 14 consecutive weeks.

Jordan's KOD debuted at number 1 and has remained on the list for 12 weeks now, and is still selling relatively well. Martin's AFfC also debuted at number 1. Although losing steam, it still holds the number 25 spot and has remained on the NYT list for 8 weeks.

In light of such impressive numbers, let's see how well Good kind will do. To our collective consternation, his books always are bestsellers. But will he make it to number 1??? Let's hope not. He is arrogant enough as it is!:eek3:

The only one that comes to mind at the moment is Tor's marketing campaign for the release of RJ's KNIFE OF DREAMS: 750, 000$. Again, too much money spent on an author that truly doesn't need that much.

I believe that Tor Books would be better served by spending a good portion of that money on lesser-known authors. But that's just me. . .

I wonder how much they spent for Erikson? $5,000 maybe?

I don't know, but I doubt Erikson cares that much. TOR still paid him a lot of money.

Well, in my opinion, Tor Books has not done enough to market SE. That's why I alluded to that in one of my questions in the interview. But SE truly appears cool with everything Tor has done so far.

In Tor Books' defense, they did take him on a West Coast tour. So that's still something, even if most fans think it's not nearly enough. . .
