Reading stonewielder
Not halfway through yet but I'm enjoying it a lot more than return of the crimson guard
I think esselmonts skills have improved which leaves me guardedly optimistic for OST
( why does guard read fine but always feel wrong when I'm writing/typing it?)

It's scary how much those book shelves in that picture look like mine....it's not, but it's got most of the same content.
It's also possible that is the bottom of a Canadian flag.
Still, not mine, but can we wager it's a Canadian members shelves?

Is that a Terry Goodkind book to the left of Dead Beat?

About 30% into Small Favor, about 50 pgs left in Cold Copper Tears, and about 26 hours into listening to A Storm of Swords. Just finished with the Red Wedding - what the fuck? Is this the most tragic fantasy or what? And, holy shit is that man vulgar. I thought Richard Morgan could push it but he's Disney in comparison.

You're claiming that GRRM is more vulgar than Morgan? have you forgotten the part of the Takeshi Kovacs series where our hero breaks into whore-central and catches some dude fucking a dog?
Perhaps you're using the term vulgar in a way that I am unfamiliar with - the simple number of expletives? If so, fine, but that's not worth talking about imo.

No, I'm using the term vulgar as it's defined. I thing GRRM is much more vulgar than Morgan. Much more. Morgan bothered me a little, (Rigil, with the smell of shit wafting through the air) but it doesn't compete with GRRM, he almost made me walk away, but that's my opinion, for whatever the fuck that counts.

I don't think the character was fucking a dog - the character was torturing it. If I remember right, Morgan made the character a politician. Or maybe that was the guy in the next one over.

It's not so much what he was actually doing, it's what Mal chooses to believe he was doing.
I also love how he put it as catching the man fucking the dog. As if the guy was red faced about the whole affair. Slowly letting the dog go, rubbing the back of his head with his hand and dragging his foot backwards and forwards on the ground as if to say, "You got me..." with a sheepish smile.
Gonna have to read Altered Carbon again.
(PS, Reading King of Thorns, 100 pages in its shitty so far. But I didn't really care much for Prince of Thorns, so I don't know why I thought this would be diffrent.)

Re-read the scene. Mal is kinda right. However, there was no embarrassment felt by the character.
Not sure why you're not connecting to King of Thorns. Lawrence is terrific.

Yeah, really don't know. It's right up my alley. Bottom line I guess is I just don't like the story.
Started The Dirty Streets of Heaven by Tad Williams today. Seems totally kick ass.

Finished up White Knight over the weekend. Moved on to Small Favor. Man, I thought these books went quick the first time I read them. I'm just flying through them now.
I have Forge of Darkness warming up in the on deck circle. Should be too long before I finish up my Dresden rereads.

Haven't done a lot of reading in the last couple of weeks due to having a week away in Chicago. As a result, I waded through Stephen Leather's Hard Landing in fits and starts whilst on holiday - it was a fairly generic thriller - but am now back in the UK and just over halfway through David Gemmell's Stormrider - absolutely loving it.
A week in Chicago? You realize that there are a few board members in that area, right? They're very fun.
I didn't know that - we went over for the Rush show, wonder if any of them were there . . .
Finished Stormrider. In the end it was, imo, the weakest of the 'Rigante' series. Still very good, though, but it had a lot to live up to. Now reading The Owl Killers by Karen Maitland.
