I just finished "The name of the Wind". It was a good read...The narrative flowed well and the story moved right along...I would recommend it to others...
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Read Dresden. There can be no question of this.

In a similar vein as Obdi, my summer break is coming up, I've got a huge reading list, but where to start?

I've narrowed it down to the following:

    Lies of Locke Lamora
  • A Clash of Kings
  • The Uncrowned King
  • Ysabel

So then by which should I begin?

Yeas, A Dance with Dragons should out just in time to distract you from your mid-semester exams. Muwahaha...

Nothing like a 1,000 page book you just HAVE to read to throw off your studying...

Yeesh...that's some fast reading. Are you related to Harriet Klausner, perchance? J/K

I'm just picking...I remember getting behind on schoolwork when I started reading for pleasure, but if you can handle it, more power to you. And knowing GRRM, it probably won't be out till Christmas anyway...;)

I think you confused the GRRM novel with the Bible.

Unfortunately this semester I have been subjected to reading a crap-load of novels... like 25, and that's just for 2 classes. :;)

Probably no one has heard of these... lol.

i finished the 2-volume "Sarantine Mosaic" by Kay
It was awesome.
Having read a bunch of kay's work before (Fionavar, Tigana, Song forArbonne), I knew that Kay was good. I did not realize how awesome he was. i was left... awed by these books.
Kay manages to write truly amazing and life-like characters. certain elements present in other books as well REALLY come to the fore in "Sarantine mosaic"--despite everything, all the airs of Imperial Byzantium, with its fate being held by the Emperor and his court, Kay really conveys the story of ordinary citizens--and brings across the point that this is THEIR story. Dumas did something similar to this, but on a much lesser scale in his less-known novel "Ascanio"
KAy not only manages tomake you care about almost every character he ever mentions, he also tells you their story. The multiple Pov, jumping-in-time type narrative really works marvellously to achieve this. And now I finally have an answer to the question raised a while ago on this forum; "Which of the fantasy worlds you've read about you'd like to live in?" Now I can definitely say that Sarantine Empire would be on top of the list.
In short, absolutely awesome books. Highly recommend them. I say "books", because they read as 1, I did not feel a significant disconnection between the two volumes.

Next up-"The lies of Locke Lamora"

Finished "The Lies of Locke Lamora"
I can see why so many people appreciated it.
While no epic, it is packed with atmosphere, and Lynch tosses in lots of nice worldbuilding chunks into it.
While it seems a light read, it does become somewhat serious as it goes on, with some major bloodshed, quite comparable to GRRM's finest--both in terms of amount and in terms of the "omfg, that just hit me like a huge pile of trucks loaded with bricks"-type impact it has on the reader.
Having fianlly read this, "Red Seas under Red Skies" is now definetely on my reading list, and comparably high on it.
Now onto "Proven guilty"--the next Dresden files novel...

Currently reading The Invisible Man by Ellison for one class and just finished Ceremony by Silko for the other class. :D

Probably no one has heard of these... lol.

Give us some credit!

I'm considering a malazan re-read. Probably wouldn't be finished in time for TtH though, so I might put it off until the summer.
