Finshed Babylon's Ashes last night. I'm going to take a break before picking up the next book. I selected Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed from my queue of ebooks. It's nice to be back reading fantasy after a few months of SciFi.

This book starts off really mean/nasty. I'm digging it already.

How are you tracking your progress in books without Goodreads? Like knowing what dates you started a book, what page you got to on your last read, etc.

You guys actually do this?
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Not the pages thing, no.

I do keep track of what books I read when, though. It also helps me to know how many books I read a year.

I don't much, but I know BK does. I just log my books read, tag them by the year read, and keep a to-read list. I sometimes update the page I'm on.

I do all of that and more. I have yearly read shelves, genre shelves, update the point to which I have read and other stuff.

Read Gospel of Loki, it's Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology from the PoV of Loki with a twist.

I prefer the Drenai books.

Same, but with the qualifier that I haven't read the Troy books hey hey put those rocks down, I'm warning you seriously people put them down...

I'm just gonna hold on to this rock for now. Continue. Just pretend I'm not here...

Would this be the right time to say I like the Rigante series the best? Posted Image

William Wallace is seven feet tall!

I liked but always felt it was Drenai-lite.

The closest I come to tracking is post in this forum.
Reading ROGUES OF THE REPUBLIC 3: THE PALADIN CAPER.This series is soooooo good. One of these characters may actually be my favorite fantasy lit rogue-type character since Eddings’ Silk.

Dropping by to say I am reading DEADHOUSE LANDING finally. You know, like a true fan. I read Memories of Ice before House of Chains came out and here I am months late???? I'm such an ass.

Anyway, it's great so far. ICE is killing it with Path to Ascendancy. I'm also reading PATERNUS 2: Wrath of Gods by Dyrk Ashton after liking the first book and wanting to actually be reading something while it's new, since I'm always so dated (see above).

Hope y'all well.

The first two books are decent but I don't think even rabid fans belive the series really kicks off until book 3.

Same. Sold my copy on ebay. I'm usually okay with.. okay-ish first books, but it had nothing that intrigued me at all.

Currently plodding through Fool's Quest. It's sloooow, and I'm not talking about my reading pace.

Like Chance says, the first two book are very generic.

It's the third one that kicks off the action and with 4-6 the series goes into overdrive.

The series is an investment into the life of Dresden. The stories are really good but it was the characters that made me love the Dresden Files. As such it takes time to grow attached to the cast.

I'm currently about 150 pages into Adrian Tchaikovsky's The Tiger and the Wolf and I'm really enjoying it, as in really enjoying it. This comes not all that long after Children of Time became my favourite read of last year. I'm confused. Many moons ago I read the first two books in his 'Shadows of the Apt' series and bounced off them hard, to the extent that I'd never really contemplated reading any of his other books, at least until I saw Children of Time going for 99p on Kindle. So I'm wondering, has his writing style improved that much? Did I miss something in the Apt books? Was I just not in the mood for them? At this rate I may have to go back and try that series again, and it amazes me that I'm even considering that.

Shadows of the Apt series varies wildly in quality.

From memory the high points were air war and warmasters gate, which were solid solid books. But there's definitely a few dude in there as well.

When I read Guns of Dawn by Tchaikovsky (stand alone) I was massively impressed with what I saw as progression in his writing abilities over the early Apt books.

Shit, a quick Amazon shows me how much Tchaikovsky has written, all I've read is the shadows of the apt series and guns of dawn.
Where should I head next with him??

Thanks, that would seem to confirm what I was thinking, that his writing has improved a lot.
